BT Infinity ECI Telecom Modem - ADSL?
« on: June 13, 2014, 04:34:08 PM »

Can I use my Infinity modem (which I don't use) on an ADSL line?  I have a failed ADSL modem on a dual WAN site, and rather than buying one, thought I would make use of this one.

Will it work on ADSL with PPPoE passthough?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, in principle at least. What modem is it?

From the subject line, I assume you have an ECI B-FOCuS modem? Is it a /I or a /r variant?  :-\

Thanks. /r I believe, but not near it at present.

I did plug it into the ADSL line, and the DSL light was just dead.  Not even a hint of trying to sync.  My test router will sync to the line though, as will the previously failed modem.

Thanks.

:hmm:  Hmm . . . Both variants (/I & /r) of the B-FOCuS can be unlocked, the former is somewhat easier (no soldering is required) than the latter. There is a GUI available once the /I has been unlocked but none with the /r.

Hence if you had a /I, I would say "Yes, it could be configured for an ADSL service."

Thanks.

What is possible with the /r once you have done some soldering? I am pretty proficient with a soldering iron...

Cheers.

As far as I am aware it is possible to reconfigure the device from the command line.  :-\

However, as I have not even got as far as soldering a set of header-pins onto the PCB of a /r device, I have not experimented with attempts to reconfigure one for an ADSL service.

There are a number of (somewhat interlocking) forum threads concerning the ECI B-FOCuS CPEs. It might be best if you were to review all the information that is currently available and then discuss your requirements with those people who have practical experience of the device.
