Youview - curious problem
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:22:32 PM »

I wonder if any folk here who have a YouView box might try a quick test and let me know the results.

Switch it on and make sure the TV is displaying the output from the Youview box.
Tune to a TV channel where the sound is noticably stereo (ie playing music, or a children's programme or film).
Confirm that the sound is in stereo (different sounds from left & right speakers, or if you've got a surround system, that sounds are coming out front left and front right as well as front centre.

Now record a few minutes of the programme you're tuned to, and play it back.

Is it still stereo, or is it suddenly in mono?  (ie no spacial sound, everything sounds in the centre, or on surround, the sound is ONLY coming out of the front centre speaker).  Listening on headphones connected to the TV is a very good way of spotting the switch between a stereo and mono sound.

If you care to try this and report your results, could you also let me know what YouView box and (ideally) which firmware you're running (it's in the system menu).

Thanks everso
