DSLstats speeds up - testers needed - version 4.54.1
« on: May 22, 2014, 11:38:49 AM »

*** Withdrawn ***

I've completely rewritten the telnet functions of DSLstats using a different networking library. This is much faster than before, and sampling now only takes about one second. The sample rate can be set to any value from one second upwards. On my system it works well at the fastest rate - occasional samples are missed, but there are no adverse consequences.

I would appreciate it if some people would test this version on different systems. I'm particularly interested in how it performs on VDSL2 systems, with the much larger quantity of data which has to be read from the modem.

This version is functionally identical to v4.53.2, but there's one additional option which may need to be set: on the login and special login pages you can select the telnet command prompt which applies to your modem. The default prompt is '#', and this will suit the vast majority of models, but the Billion 7800DXL (for example) uses '>' and there are probably some others. This option needs to be set correctly or sampling will fail. I intend to automate this selection later.

You can download v4.54.1 from http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/downloads.html (at the bottom of the page).

[Edit] Version 4.54 won't work with modems which use a second stage login. I'll correct this shortly.
[Edit2] Now version 4.54.1 which does work with
modems which use a second stage login.

Unfortunately v4.54.1 is a total failure when tried with an Huawei HG622 modem/router on an ADLS2 service.

Only on the first start if the "dslstats.ini" isn't available the following error occurs: List index (0) out of bounds.

Sadly I can't test it further because it fails with "Unable to login to modem/router". I left the login fields empty, because I don't need any login. This worked with all previous versions.

Thank you. Yes, I can confirm that - I've just set up an HG622 here and got the same result. I'll fix it tomorrow.

Would just like to highlight one line from the current Event Log, attached above --

I have been seeing that ever since the web server functionality was provided. I wish it could delete that directory, for it would save me having to go and manually delete it!

That one is a bit of a puzzle, because it does delete it here. I'll give it some more attention.

Seems to be working fine here.

HG612 on a VDSL2 connection takes around 5 seconds for sampling.
Previous versions took around 14 - 15 seconds.

Thank you Eric  :clap2:

Installed it about 15 mins ago and so far it seems to be working good here.
Sampling is lightning fast here, sat and watched it several times with the clock open and its just 2-3 seconds.
Im running it in compatibility mode and by :38 secs its always finished.

FYI

ZyXel VMG8324 uses Telnet prompt '>' and CLI prefix 'adsl'

oops not sure what I did.

I was trying to look at my QLN graph which only showed the final tones.  I tried to scroll to the left which is when the error box popped up.

The black bars arent me blanking out info, its now like it on all tabs.

I can repeatedly cause it to crash by scrolling to the right of the image, when it sticks with just the final tones.  If I then try to scroll left, thats when I get the error.  It also happens if I click the compress bar.

I rather doubt that's related to the new version specifically, because I didn't change any of the graphing code. Anyway, I'll take a look at it.

Many thanks for this update  :) .  I have been away or you would have heard sooner.  It has been running fine for about 18 hours now.

I have not tested how the fastest sampling speed might vary with the number of plots enabled, but I seem to be able to just manage a 3 sec rate with most enabled - my pc is not too fast.

I am keeping an eye of the error rates over 24 hours at the moment as they seem unusually different (smaller) from the up-time values. It will be best to see if I come back on that after a longer test with less messing about.
