Hey johnson, do you think that the 8324/8924 will get the d26s kernel driver in an official zyxel release?

Very unlikely. They seem to be updating kernel module versions on the 3925, but its build env is relatively modern, on the 3.4 kernel. The 1312/8x24 build is still on 2.6.30 from so many years ago.  :(

Just setting up a VMG8924-B10A on BT Infinity and want to update the firmware.

What's the best version to update to?

I've found this on the Zyxel site or is it best to use one from the 1st post?

The links in the 1st post have not been updated since 2015.  Version 28 is the latest official version and that is in the link you posted.

There is a slightly older version modified for baby jumbo frames courtesy of johnson - https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,21273.0.html

As vultura mentioned, if you don't want or care about baby jumbo frames, firmware 1.00(AAKL.28)C0 from the Zyxel site should be your best bet.

Most of us who use the modified firmware use these devices in bridged mode. I'm not sure the modified firmware has been tested in full router mode so YMMV.

I received an 8924 from John Lewis BB and wondering if it has a repeater mode? I'm using a HG612 and an Asus as my main router plus another in repeater mode. Adding another repeater would be useful, hence the question. Thanks in advance.

You can stop the DHCP, set the IP address to anything you like and configure the Wifi to use whatever SSID and password you want. You would need a wired ethernet connection back to your main router.

You could also use the 8924 to replace the HG612, as it might sync at a higher speed and may offer new features not supported by the HG612 (depending on cabinet you are connected to).

Wow, thanks for the superquick response guys. Trying it out as repeater now. I've had it in a box for months and only just occured to me to give this a whirl!

Yep, works a treat as a repeater, quite simple to setup as well. I might try it as a replacement for the modem - if so I will report back.

Just for fun I swapped my 8924 in to act as modem. Straightforward to do and worked like a charm. It's gone back to repeater duties now but have another one on order to replace my HG612. I'm on a Huawei cabinet, John Lewis (plusnet) broadband.

Any recommendations for settings/firmware version for the modem side of things (other than what's in the wiki)?

I would suggest finding the supervisor password as this may enable you to enable options such as "Reboot" on the normal Maintenance menu.  Instructions for doing this are in other threads.
