Can any of you VMG8324 / VMG8924 users let me know if they support baby jumbo frames while running in bridge mode to another router? Thank you.

I dont think the 8324/8924 supports any jumbo frames.
In Broadband menu there is an option for MTU size and there is a note that the MTU should be up to 1492

Thanks tubaman & Starman, flashed v20 to the VMG8324 this week and it has been synced fine for several days. Seems to (unsurprisingly) get comparable rates to the VMG1312-B10A it replaced.

Also pretty sure neither the 8324 or 8924 support baby jumbo frames, as they use the same chipset and very similar firmware to the 1312 and from AAISPs wiki they asked Zyxel about 1508 mtu and were told support will not be added, see: https://support.aa.net.uk/VMG1312-B10A:_Bugs.

Which of the ZyXel devices seems to be the preferred model with members of this forum? The 8324-B10A, 8924-B10A or the 1312-B10A? Still doing my research on which to go for.

I have an 8924-B10A as I wanted to try 'ac' Wifi. I use it for Vodafone. Very stable connection 450m from FTTC cabinet.

I have had an 8324, 8924 and currently run a 3925-B10B and can recommend any of them, obviously only the 8924 and 3925 do 5ghz.

From my reading and understanding of the forum I'd say most people would recommend the 1312-B10A if you intend to use it in bridge mode as a modem only, and the 8924-B10A if you wish to use it as an all in one box.

All 3 you mention have the coveted BCM63168 chipset that seems produce the highest sync speeds on most lines. The 1312-B10A came out more recently than the other two, so even if purchasing from ebay you are likely to get a unit produced within the last year or so, but other than that its the least capable as a router, sporting only 100mbit ethernet ports and wireless N. The 8324 is similar but with gigabit lan ports and is an older model, so even "new" stock is likely to be old in comparison to the 1312, the same can be said for the 8924 but it has AC wireless.

With that said, all 3 are great candidates for using in bridge mode, and you might find the 8324 & 8924 to be cheaper.

Another option is the Billion 8800NL (R1 version), it has the same BCM63168 chipset and can be found for reasonable money.

Do you have another router you want to use with the modem MrMike?

I have used a lot of modem/routers but I have to say that the 8924 that I am using right now is by far the best.
The firmware is pretty solid after all these years and if something happen to my 8924 I will get the same.

I have both a VMG8924-B10A and a VMG1312-B10A.

As a combined unit, with the giga LAN ports and brilliant 5GHz AC WiFi, the 8924 is best.

For use as a bridge modem, I recommend and use the 1312. It only has 100Mb LAN ports but 80/20 is the max anyway. The HG612 only has 100Mb LAN ports.
It syncs slightly higher, and I much prefer the design (basically a black HG612) so I can wall mount it right next to the master socket with a 25/50cm patch lead.

might be worth splitting the last few posts, gone a bit OT.

It will be used purely in bridge mode with my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X. Thank you for your responses everyone and sorry for taking this topic off-track. I shall keep a look out for either a VMG1312 or VMG8924.

If it's going to be used in bridge mode, the VMG8324 will be effectively identical to the 8924, and may be cheaper if you can find one.

New firmware 21

Thank you for then information.  I am amazed at how often the updates some out. I have applied the update and no immediately obvious problems with my FTTC connection.

New firmware 21

ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/VMG8924-B10A/firmware/

There appears to be a regression error: when adding DNS entries, hostnames can't include dashes.  This was apparently fixed in an earlier firmware (16?) but is broken in fw 21.  Zyxel have acknowledged the error and say it will be fixed in the next fw release (due Sept 2018).
