Is channel 112 really the max for 5GHz Wi-Fi on this router?

At 80Mhz bandwidth, yes. Smaller bandwidth lets you use higher channels it appears.

Ive just test v7, v11 and v14 for the 5Ghz channels, 112 is max at 80mhz.

I have been having issues with 5Ghz, so i tested the signal strength with my PC that is connected right nearby the VMG8924. 2.4Ghz reads a signal strength of -20dbm, but 5Ghz is reading -70dbm. The PC is about 30cm away from the router.

Shouldnt signal strength be a lot higher at this small distance?

At about 12ft mine is showing:

5 GHz -47dB
2.4 GHz  -32dB

Path loss is (in theory) proportional to the square of frequency ,so on 5 ghz you should see an higher attenuation

Got one of these cheapish on ebay so far sync is the same as HG612 on the latest firmware with a g.inped ECI line.

Seems like nothing can beat my Open-WRT ECI modem on that line.

Have you tried?

Go to Network Settings > Home Networking > Static DHCP

Identify the old device from the list show, click the little dustbin to delete from list.
Yes tried that (the usual way to delete static IP associations). However, if you attempt to 'Add new static lease', the IP address is still associated with an old MAC address in the list.
It appears a reboot of the gateway will wipe the cache for this association but seems a bit of an extreme route to have to go.

I've just bought one of these to replace my SBG3300-N and it is syncing higher on the downstream but slightly lower on the upstream which is fine. Currently running firmware 1.00(AAKL.14)C0

After one day of use though I've noticed a huge amount of errors recorded in DSLStats:

Average error rates for 12 Jun 2016

CRC erors per hour:  4246 Down,  0.14 Up
FEC erors per hour:  182609981 Down,  0.14 Up
HEC erors per hour:  1166 Down,  0 Up
ES per hour:  772 Down,  0.14 Up
SES per hour:  3.16 Down,  0 Up

Not seen this before on anything I've ever used, any ideas?

Almost the same as I was getting with version 14 of the firmware, it seems it's only affecting a very small minority of us.
I rolled mine back to version 7
ftp://ftp.zyxel.co.uk/VMG8324-B10A/firmware/VMG8324-B10A_1.00(AAKL.7)C0.zip
Maybe try it and monitor how it goes?
Mine is fine now and still running version 7

I've also attached a redacted email I received from Zyxel this morning, my question to them was "which is the latest supported firmware for the VMG8324-B10A and would that firmware be approved under BTW SIN498"

Their answer was quite a surprise to me
Considering the version 14 firmware release notes state for the 8324 and the 8924 models.

I think that will also be a surprise to BT Wholesale - as confirmed by the list you posted the other day - BTW were saying that v.10 (1.00(AAKL.10)C0_0703) was the SIN498 approved firmware back in February.

@Dave974

My mistake it's actually a VMG8924-B10A I bought and after a connection drop last night my download speed has increased a further 3Mbps but INP has increased one level.

So far today no massive issue with errors:

Average error rates for 13 Jun 2016

CRC erors per hour:  0.55 Down,  0 Up
FEC erors per hour:  61340 Down,  0 Up
HEC erors per hour:  0 Down,  0 Up
ES per hour:  0.55 Down,  0 Up
SES per hour:  0 Down,  0 Up

All very strange, let's see what happens later tonight.

Ah no worries, the minority diminishes!

Yes, i think its 3 of us on this thread with the millions of FEC/min on anything above v7 after an hour of being up, including me.
I ended up switching to the HG612 with the latest version on the 8924 since the general UI is less buggy now, but still surprisingly buggy.

Hi All

Been running V7 for a while now and always had the high FEC error on all versions after that.

Anyway, taken the plunge into v14 (we'll see how long it lasts).

The problem I have is that I cannot access the router through the fixed Ethernet connection at Port 1. It was OK at V7 but now can only access the router configuration through wireless.

Any ideas? :'(

Any body got parental controls to work. I have set it up but it is normal restricting access. Running v14

I see high FEC counts as well, but it usually starts about 3 days after a retrain. I get this with my VMG8924 and also a VMG1312. I’ve tried different versions of the firmware, but the high counts always return. There doesn’t appear to be any detrimental effect on my line, but it is disconcerting. The line I see this on has G.INP enabled (Huawei), but my second line which is on fast path has none of these symptoms with the same devices. I wonder if this just an error with the firmware counter rather than something physical happening on the line as I never see this behaviour with my Billion or HG612.

It's a valid point, what I find troubling is the release notes for version 14 state it's suitable for the 8924 and 8324 yet Zyxel's own technical support advise their latest supported firmware for the 8324 is version 7.

I wonder, just as an experiment, if someone with errors after a certain time period has ever tried rolling back to version 1?
Version 1 was the firmware submitted to BTW for SIN498 testing and passed
I've never tried it myself but I'll give it a go and report back any findings
