Login to the command line interface using  supervisor pass zyad1234

Then you can use Sh  which shells into the full busybox interface with no annoying timeout.

Supervisor seems to unlock extra command options which you don't get with normal user login.

Using echo&bash times out after 3mins I seem to remember.  Not tried much with it for 6 months.

Considering  this device is 2 years old now it seems odd zyxel still seems to be having trouble finding bug free stable firmware.  And if 11c0 is stable why remove it and go back to 10c0?

I was tinkering with the four VMG8{9,3}24-B10A devices I have here today. I pulled in all the firmware files from zyxel.it FTP, including the L11 they'd put in the recycle bin!

I was messing about with the CFE and enabling debug mode with ATSE/ATEN and got fed up needing to be online to the Javascript password generator, so I've written a little C program that can generate both seed and password from the MAC address and optional timestamp.

See my git repo for cfe-generate-password. Instructions are in the header comments. I've tested it against the Javascript code and not found any differences, but please let me know if you use the tool and it generates incorrect values.

Code: [Select]
git clone git://iam.tj/cfe_generate_password.git

See my git repo for cfe-generate-password.

I've taken a quick look and had a very simple play.

I recommend that you insert a return result; line at the end of the case 'v' section of the switch . . .

Currently --

Code: [Select]
[Duo2 zxc]$ cfe_gen_pass -v
Version: 1.00
Usage:
  -v                   show version
  -s 00:01:02:03:04:05 create seed from MAC address
  -t 000000            millisecond timestamp since boot
  -p [SEED]            generate password (with optional seed)

  E.g. -s 01:02:03:04:05
       -s 01:02:03:04:05 -p
       -p 000000030405

MAC address: (null) Timestamp: 000000 Seed:  Password:
[Duo2 zxc]$

With the insertion of the return result; line --

Code: [Select]
[Duo2 zxc]$ cfe_gen_pass -v
Version: 1.00
[Duo2 zxc]$

I.e.

<snip>
        switch (argv[arg][1]) {
          case 's':
            opt_seed = 1;
            break;
          case 'p':
            opt_pass = 1;
            break;
          case 't':
            opt_ts = 1;
            break;
          case 'v':
            fprintf(stderr, "Version: %0.2f\n", VERSION);
            return result;
        }
<snip>

Thanks for spotting that.

I made a conscious decision to allow version and other options at the same time; that is the reason version is written to stderr but the generated data to stdout. I just forgot to not write the report if no reporting options were given. Updated.

My line is 1km from cab.

I get about 35D and 6.7U in sync.

Releases 8 and onwards seem to be much less stable for me and looking at the changes list there was new modem code in there which just didn't seem to work for my line.

The guys on here that seem to be getting on well with later F/W seem to have much better lines to start with and are debating how much affect it is having on their 80 meg speed lines.

For me, and I'm not saying this with any technical certainty, the new modem code is too sensitive causing errors (CRC) mainly that are causing the line to be unstable.

Can't see many features between 7 and 11b2 that I couldn't live without.

All Zyxel sites except Italian still show 7C as latest release.

Just my 2p

Your post has saved me, i had the exact same issues as you, massive FEC's in the 3-5 millions per minute with the 10C0 fw that shipped with my router.
I have flashed 7C fw and now its perfect! The FECs have gone, the speeds are back. I am 900m away and am at 36.9/7.8 mbps.

Glad it's worked for you  :)

I haven't had any problems since going back to 7C.

This router has been consistently better than all the routers I've tried before - HG12, Draytek 2760, Fritzbox, ZyXel P2812.

To be fair, the P2812HNU was pretty good but sent back about 3 routers because ZyXel's official firmware kept bricking them...hmmm

The 8324 has been solid and I'm leaving it alone now on 7C. I think it has eeked out every last bit on a long copper line and any more attempts on improving speed will decrease stability.

Thing is the problem started out on the Sky SR102, and I only just installed the Zyxel 8924 about a month ago.
Also, the Sky SR102 has been connected for a week since the BT Engineer last visited and the sync was degrading on that too.

I did ask you on your I have an engineer coming but thread at the modem/router could be at fault but you seemed to dismiss this as the cause and now you have changed your mind  ???

Yep, i have a feeling it was s combination of line fault and modem. The problem did exist on both modems, but the zyxel was causing another problem in itself. The SR102 had dropped to 27mbps a week after the first engineer visit.

And i will say thanks as well since your post made me doubt the modem after the 2nd visit and read this thread again  ;)

Hi, I'm using my HDD as a file share, ie connected into the usb port. I can able to access via local network. Configured Dynamic DNS to access from outside and I can able to manage my router from outside network. But while trying to access my share folder it is not allowing. Do I have to configure anything for getting access to the shared folder?

What is the maximum speed of wireless in this device. I changed my internet connection from eircom to virginmedia. That is offering 240Mbps but I'm getting around 180Mbps on their cable modem. I connected zyxel to the cable modem via WAN port get get access to my HDD and printer via usb. What I noticed is the internet speed is reduced to 90Mbps (zyxel wireless). But if I use the wireless connection from cable modem I'm still getting 180Mbps. Why is it so?

Wonder what differences there are.

Not a lot that I can see so far.
I was hoping for a new xdsl driver but it's the same old A2pv6F039o1.d26a.
