Actually is does work with sky fibre. It's just hard to get it to do so. Took me a month to work it out. It's still a botch and restart or resend will cut you off. Asked zyxel to add custom command to Internet setup To make permanent but they said no. You need to add ipoe setup in router setup as per kits setting and leave the aiid  and duid blank then go to the Cli interface. Out of interest if you log in as supervisor the time out works as to what you set it. No 2 min and kicks you off. Then run the udhcp command. can take upto 5 min to connect.

Thats very interesting, i would like to keep the Zyxel so if you wouldnt mind, could you expand on your explanation in a little bit more depth as i only want to open the box if i know itll run (im not sure on stuff-uk's return policy).

Also they havent even delivered it yet =( Now will have to chase them up because it was dispatched on the 18th.

So what are the limitations on running it on Sky Fibre?

So, log into the router and add connection. Mines adsl/vdsl over ptm.
Mode routing
Encapsulation ipoe
Ip mode v4 only
Obtain Ip address auto
Dhcp options leave blank
Vlan  active
802p 0
802q 101
Mtu1500

Save this, I called it sky

Install putty and open connection to the router command line interface. Log in as supervisor. Default password is in firmware pdf file at the end.

Once in type
Sh

Then run the following line
Udhcpc  -i  ptm0.1 -c "youruserpasswordastext" &

It will then connect. May take 10mins to do so but give it time.
Lease message pops up when it has.

This is a non permanent solution. Restart or resync and you have to run the above command line again.

My connection is stable so once on can last week's with no issue.

Others may know way to make this permanent but I have tried and can't.  Not programmer you see.

This is against sky t&cs for their connection, if you on fibre. Use 3rd party router forbidden. Theirs is very poor though.

Thanks for your post.

Ive not used Telnet, or know what utilities are available on router firmwares, but i know linux systems, so i wonder if crontab or similar is available which can just automate/schdule that task? And then create a script with the command and even make a monitoring loop for the connection.

My line is dreadful currently, when i got fibre it was synced 37mb for 135 days, but after that it has been degrading, i have an engineer coming to look at it. This has all worked out pretty badly so far. The line is resyncing nearly every night (early hours of morning), but hope it can get back to what it used to be, sitting at 24mb now but upload is the same as it was from the start (8mb).

edit
Another idea is to use my linux server to remotely execute some commands, and have that in a bash script which is scheduled to run in crontab.

I wonder is there any way to tell if the connection has dropped from the CLI of the router? That would make it work for me, as i could just poll that every 15 mins, then run the script to remote into the router and run the commands to issue a reconnect.

edit2
From your post, maybe the process "Udhcpc" quits when the router drops connection? If there is a process monitor maybe you can check for me.

Edit3
I can just ping the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 every 1 minute, if the ping fails, I kill udhcpc process via bash script and re run the connection command remotely.
I guess the worst thing is that potentially it takes up to 11 minutes to reconnect if we assume it can take 10 mins for udhcpc to get an IP.

It's the same password you log in with.

Ok im just using defaults admin/1234 currently, that lets me in, but i cannot run anything
login as: admin
admin@192.168.1.1's password:
 > sh
sshd:error:634.323:processInput:544:unrecognized command sh
 > udhcpc
sshd:error:669.338:processInput:544:unrecognized command udhcpc

Ive used ssh in putty port 22 to connect. And the same with telnet port 23.

Once you have logged in with the default admin/1234 credentials, try using entering help or ? to see if you are then provided with any clues.

Once you have logged in with the default admin/1234 credentials, try using entering help or ? to see if you are then provided with any clues.

That gives me

However i dont see how that allows me to run commands as KeithB posted.

Edit
run:
echo && bash
cd ./bin
ls

Now i see the executables.

Lastly, when running
Udhcpc  -i  ptm0.1 -c "youruserpasswordastext" &

Should the user pass be in the following format: "aaaaaaaa@skydsl|password" ?

Hmm . . . So another step further forward. However I don't have access to a ZyXel device, so I am unable to assist.

Perhaps send a PM to KeithB if nobody else is able to advise you on the next steps?

I wonder if you need to stop the Zyxel booting into its restricted shell. ?

When the Zyxel boots you get 1 second to interrupt the startup sequence and drop to a 'working' shell.
This is what I had to do to make changes to the Zyxel when the GUI Firmware update screen would not work.

This was only possible using a 'USB to RS232/TTL PL2303HX Cable Adapter COM Module Converter Adapter for Arduino' to the header on the Zyxel motherboard.
Example cable I used off ebay ==> Here
You have an always open serial connection which shows the boot up sequence.

But success!

It connected instantly by the way.

Ok ill keep an eye on it, it wasnt 3600 seconds thats for sure.

Ive run into a road bump however, i have a bit of a complicated network config, and it doesnt seem to play ball with the router.

My connection is configured as follows:
A Linux server provides DHCP, and gives its own IP as the gateway. The server connects via OpenVPN to the internet (via my own VPS). Its been setup to forward packets over ipv4.
This was working fine with the Sky SR102, but doesnt seem to work with the Zyxel. The Linux server can ping the internet ok, but all my clients cant seem to connect to the internet anymore =( Ive set the Zyxel to use the same local ip as my SR102 was.

Investigations continue. I tried turning off all firewalls (on my server and the router) but that didnt solve it.

Just noticed today that the 11C0 f/w seems to have disappeared from the Italian site, there is one called V100AAKL10C0_20150923.bin but no 11C0. This is at ftp://certified:zyxel@ftp.zyxel.it/firmware/VMG8924/.

I sent my last question to support, they sent me a link to the newest fw according to them

Edit
Also i solved my last problem, seems like my config didnt like Wifi, but was fine over ethernet.

Heres a bash script that auto connects the router on sky fibre, i just run it in the back ground on a linux machine - could use a raspberry pi.

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash

host=192.168.0.1
port=23
user=admin
pass=1234

while :
do
sleep 30
if ping -c 1 8.8.8.8 &> /dev/null
then
  echo connected
else
  echo disconnected

( echo open ${host}
sleep 1
echo ${user}
sleep 1
echo ${pass}
sleep 1
echo "echo && bash"
sleep 2
echo "udhcpc -i ptm0.1 -c \"7c4ca5fba128@skydsl|baaaaaa6\" &"
sleep 60
echo "exit"
sleep 1
echo "exit"
 ) | telnet
sleep 30
fi

done

I think something is badly up with the line with these stats.
