has anyone checked how stable 11b2 is regarding VDSL2 connections?

I'm still on the 7C0(?) which was released last year in December. Feels funny to use a version which is that old, but the connection reliability regressions that had been reported since the 8* versions scare me.

My 10C0 version on my 8924 (its the same f/w for both the 8324 and 8924) has been up now 56 days with no interruptions so if you're not happy using 11b2 (a beta) try 10C0 which is a full release.

My line is 1km from cab.

I get about 35D and 6.7U in sync.

Releases 8 and onwards seem to be much less stable for me and looking at the changes list there was new modem code in there which just didn't seem to work for my line.

The guys on here that seem to be getting on well with later F/W seem to have much better lines to start with and are debating how much affect it is having on their 80 meg speed lines.

For me, and I'm not saying this with any technical certainty, the new modem code is too sensitive causing errors (CRC) mainly that are causing the line to be unstable.

Can't see many features between 7 and 11b2 that I couldn't live without.

All Zyxel sites except Italian still show 7C as latest release.

As a former developer, I would like people to take “beta” seriously.  Beta means “contains bugs”, and I am not sure why these manufacturers seem happy to release betas willy-nilly. There ought to be a limited distribution and health warning, and without a back-reporting mechanism the whole thing is pointless and simply harmful. Everyone seems to want their dinner before its ready.

To those who are brave, and who hopefully understand the risks, and are ready to report back, then _good for you_, helping the development effort.  ;D ;D

I wouldn't know, unless there are release notes or meaningful filenames or version numbers. I just made the general health warning because someone I think mentioned 11b2 which sounds beta-ish. Version numbers need to be clear. Perhaps that's just hex!

Anything released as C0 is supposedly final , anything which is b1, b2 etc is beta.

To add confusion, the last official C0 release on any Zyxel site is 7C but as you can see from the OP / top post in this thread there are a number of "C" releases on an Italian site which is just plain odd anyway.

To compound this, Zyxel managed to release two different versions of 7C !

Hi

I'm currently using this beta with no problems, been doing a lot of messing around in the Web UI and it hasn't crashed once, and the VDSL drivers are the same as version 10 so there shouldn't be any changes there.

Regards

Phil

Ditto, I have been using it for a few weeks and have had not problems with the GUI or line stability.
(Never had stability problems with any version)

In fact after a recent 'Mystery DLM Drop of the line' I am syncing at 79012 with a Max Attainable of 75897  ???
An improvement on recent figures but SNR (Down) is 4.7, so waiting for bounce at some point.  ;D

There's just too much uncertainty regarding the stability of all post-7C releases... too many different opinions and the fact that different people are reporting that those later firmwares are causing them disconnections is a showstopper when deciding on whether to update or not. The opinions regarding 7C seem to be way more consistent. The new modem driver seems to be flawed.

Does anybody know whether this was the first time that Zyxel was updating the modem driver for this router?

From the changelog it looks like they upgraded it at version 4 - A2pv6F039i and version 8 - Apv6F039o1

Does the change in modem driver improve performance any?  I'm running on version 7C and it's pretty stable but I was going to attempt 10C if I could eek out a bit more speed.

I'm also still on the 7C one. A couple of months ago I got 97.x (or 98.x?) mbps in a speedtest over 802.11ac wifi (I'm only using the ZyXel in bridge mode and use an Asus router for the wifi part). I pay for an "up to" 100mbps connection. So I guess modem-wise the 7C0 should already give you the maximum physically possible speed. Due to the reports about many CRC errors with any later firmware versions I'd rather expect a speed degradation, unfortunately.

Perhaps I should have tried one of the earlier firmwares on my VMG8324 (ex Eircom F1000) but in my case, the 10C0 firmware generated far more CRCs than other modems I have used, e.g. Billion 8800NL, Huawei HG612.
