Just to say my 8924 has been up now for 13 days since last boot and 8 days since last sync on the V8 f/w so it is stable for me. I have never (touch wood) had the memory issue.

Yeah I can only echo the previous posts - my ZyXEL has been running for 14 days now without a crash so despite what ZyXEL have stated the v8b2 firmware has been the most stable for me when using it as only a router not router modem.

Hi

Had a response from ZyXEL regarding some firmware issues.

2) I was told the beta 8v2 did not pass their qualifications and shouldn't be used, but as no other firmware allowed me to run for more than half a day without crashing, and this version has been up for 10 days now, I'll stick with what works :)

They also told me to reassure me on their continued support that two manages (Account manager and Service manager) of theirs in the UK are using this router from home, and both are homeworkers.  Presumably they had access to the special fixed version 7 firmware so never suffered the shared MDM memory issue that caused me to send one back  ::)

I'm quite happy with it now its stable, still a few issues here and there, but seems happy enough and Wi-Fi with AC and a one box solution is great.

Regards

Phil

Italian Zyxel Support publishes on its ftp site also beta version (sometimes with changelog) because users have asked it;indeed we prefer to do beta testing and report our impressions to support rather then have a definitive release old and buggy.
There is an official thread on www.hwupgrade.it/forum related to Zyxel VMG8924 where we exchange infos, this thread is read by Zyxel support.

Hovewer on my router 8b2 runs smoother then 7C0 and for the first time the router doesn't reboot using 2.4 and 5 Ghz links together.....

My 8924 crashed today in that DSLStats could not login and I could not login to the gui either. So I rebooted and took the opportunity to load the latest official firmware in which seems to be OK now. Of course I had to do extra re-sync to lower the actual speed a bit but all seems OK now.

Trying this version 8 now and had first reboot after a few hours. Not looking promising may go back to the beta.

Hi

Well I tried to downgrade to the beta 8v2 but it wouldn't allow me to upload the saved configuration I made when on that version, so as I would need to enter everything back in again for umpteenth time I thought I would give the released version 8 another go after doing a factory reset and entering everything back in, just in case it was tripping up over a previous configuration setting.  At least version 8 seems to have fixed the UPnP problem I had clearing out old entries.

I will let everyone know if it now appears stable.

ZyXEL need to do proper testing, if the BETA was stable, why on earth release a non-stable modified version of that BETA?

Regards

Phil

Hi

ZyXEL need to sort out this firmware!  Managed to crash the router running the Thinkbroadband speed test over 5GHz Wi-Fi, think this has been a common complaint over on the HWUpgrade forum on various firmware versions.  This is on the released version 8 firmware, first time I tried the speed test over Wi-Fi so not sure if the problem exists on other versions.

Probably it is an earlier version of 8C0, the 7C0 was published in mid december on italian ftp site but released on global site about a month later at the end of january.

i am testing dual APs operation, at the moment no reboot but i am not stressing the router yet, i will do it later.

Hi

Thanks, never thought it might be an older version than the Beta 8, but that could explain it.  Just crashed it again download a Skype update over 5G, so now going back to the Beta version 8.

Hi

Okay, owe the ZyXEL an apology  ::)  The new version of the firmware wasn't causing the crash.  Around the same time I sorted out wiring and power bricks, and long story short, the ZyXEL was being fed power from the wrong brick.  I'm guessing the demand of 5GHz doing a speed test was enough to cause the voltage to drop enough to cause a reboot.

On the correct brick and all is okay.
