Am I mistaken or is the new firmware 8b2 using a new modem driver F039o1 ?

Yes just updated the firmware, it has a new dsl driver, at the moment the crc errors seem to be much less on my adsl2+ connection

Kitz, you may also want to put this link in the first post for official downloads,  they actually list the V100AAKL7C0 firmware now.

I just installed the V8 firmware on my 8924 and found that after a factory reset and then reloading the user config file I just created before the upgrade would not work. I had to manually set everything up again. The was an upgrade from the first V7 version. Anyone else see this?

I haven't yet installed V7,  as that wouldn't load my previous configuration file so I went back to the previous version as I didn't have the time.

I have had similar problems when up/downgrading the firmware on the 8324.
I think there are differences in the format of the output when the configs are saved and sometimes the differences cause the 'Restore' to be rejected.

I am logging all the messages that are 'spit-out' via the Serial terminal connected to the header on the motherboard.
When backing up the config the messages captured were are as follows [Firmware Ver:6b1]:

Quote
cfg_rule    : /var/cfgrule
 cfg_base   : /var/cfgbase
 cfg_output  : /var/cfgout

generate the paralist and value list from input XML file
not well-formed (invalid token) at line 2149

 create tree

 process parameters filter procedure

 create output configuration file

 outout file: /var/cfgout

Obviously not bug free  ;D therefore quite possible there are input errors between versions of the config file.
(I have versions from firmware 4 --> 7 not all would restore. Expected possibility of not being backward compatible but maybe other issues as well)

Might just be me but with the new b8 firmware I've noticed twice now approx 24hrs apart the DHCP seems to become stuck and refuses to issue addresses. Although by going into Network Settings -> Home Networking -> LAN Setup and just clicking apply. It seems to work resolve it and I notice that clicking apply also causes the device log to report "DHCP server information has been modified".

To be fair most LAN devices are setup to be reissued the same address its was just when connecting something new/rarely used since FW upgrade.

Ive decided to make a list of the firmwares for the VMG8324-B10A

A little confused here - which is the latest firmware from the attached D/L list and that supports G.INP please? And are there some firmware flashing instructions anywhere pse? I can't find them  :-[ it's likely my advancing years (or so SWMBO tells me)  :oldman: I've found the basic setup guide though  :D (thanks Kitz  :) )

I am going to put it on for MDWS along with DSLstats as I think the current setup is getting suspect and it would be nice if it worked first time  ???

L8b2 is the latest firmware and I believe people running L7 reported G.INP working correctly.

I think its under Broadband -> Advanced its PhyR US & DS that enable G.INP if supported by the headend.

Great thanks! And I now see from the manual that there is a menu option for the firmware upgrade:

 Maintenance, Firmware upgrade.

Be advised that you may not be able to restore a config file from a previous version, so may well need to re-enter all your settings.

:hmm: I haven't even powered it up yet and will flash it first anyway...

Not having much success here....

It came with firmware v 1.00(AKL.4)

I've now tried to flash it to 8b2 about six times and it never works. Have factory reset in between, tried several different .bin file version/downloaded again etc etc and so on but it never updates.

According to the manual it is supposed to reboot itself sometime after the upload has succeeded - the upload always works.

Then there's a spinner for about 30 secs, but it then drops back to the same screen again with apparently nothing happened and no error messages (such as the 'illegal image' one the manual mentions). Have tried both from a stick and directly from the c: drive on the attached laptop.

Rebooting manually, even after a 10 minute wait,  always ends up back at the same firmware version again.

Any ideas please?

Questions/Ideas: [Apologies if these are insulting your intelligence  ;D]

1. Is the Zyxel a 'Kosher' VMG8324-B10A or a Eircom F1000 unlocked ?
[Eircom will NOT read in Zyxel Firmware as standard. Can be made to though]

2. Can you check the Firmware *.bin is not corrupt ?
[Compare Checksum from Zip etc]

3. Use Chrome as your browser as the Zyxel UI is flakey with others sometimes.

4. Use a usb to ttl cable and update the firmware via a terminal session using xmodem.

Thanks, no problem  ;)

1. The box it came in says it is a ZyXel as does the front panel....

2) Not a zip but have downloaded it several times and tried other earlier bins as well, and there are no errors shown with any

3) Yes, Chrome

4) Not tried that yet as don't have a cable.

Also all AV software etc off, no difference.

I've also contacted ZyXel to see if they've come across it before.

Here is a link on Dropbox to zipped copies of versions 6b1 and 8b2.

Try the 6b1 version first and then if that works do the 8b2 version.

I wonder if the version upgrade is too far and you need to upgrade from a newer version.
i.e. 4 --> 6 then 6 --> 8

Ensure the zips test as OK [Test archive option in your zip s/w)

[Link gone]

I will delete this link in 8 hrs or so. (Don't like leaving potential points of access to Dropbox etc around on the web)
