I wish it did :) Already set to 1800 which I don't think I've ever changed so I assume that is the default.

How about set to 86400?

In 1.00(AAKL.28)C0 Sideband control doesn't work. Can't use Wifi Auto channel if any of your devices doesn't support channels 12-13.

Its never recommended to use Auto anyway, especially on 2.4Ghz.  Due to the lack of consistency in devices in the UK supporting 12-13, you want to stick to channels 1, 6 and 11 to avoid clashing with multiple channels.  Auto has a nasty habit of picking other channels, causing crosstalk that other devices can't see.

WiFi relies on being able to SEE when any APs you are on the same channel as are transmitting, you need to be on EXACTLY the same channel for that to work, otherwise its just seen as noise and impairs performance.  Not an issue if you have a clear channel to yourself, but that's only going to happen if you live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors on 2.4Ghz and increasing rare even on 5Ghz.

Agree with Alex. Some kit can list the channels allowed by auto; but if not then you’re possibly being very unfair to your neighbours, straddling two or even three standard channels (if you’re greedy, on 40 MHz twin channel). Using a four channel (1, 5, 9, 13) pattern is quite a reasonable idea in a congested area but all neighbours have to agree on it and many wouldn’t have a clue, so politically challenging, so best to stick to the standard 1, 6, 11.

Hi All,
I'm trying to resurect an old Zyxel VMG8924-B10A as a modem only on my FTTC as my HG612 has blown up.
It's currently running firmware 1.00(AAKL.15)C0.
Can anyone tell me what the best/latest firmware to use is before I set it up please?
Also a link to where I can donload it would be good as I can't seem to connect to any og the links in the first post here.
Thanks and regards.

I'm using the latest (V28) from the Zyxel ftp site - ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/ - and it works well.

Recommend the custom firmware available at VMG8x24-B10A based on current latest V100AAKL28C0 source, written by our very own member Johnson. I use the VMG 1312-B10A version (same URL).

Enhanced features:

jumbo - baby jumbo frames ; PPP MTU 1508K
tel - multiple telnet sessions allowed
x1/6 - later adsl_phy.bin
stats - an additional ‘easy stats’ web server on port 8000. You don’t have to use this delicious feature displaying stats. The standard ZyXEL web server UI remains as is.
cmd - custom commands on boot

@tubaman, thanks I have it flashed and all working now.

@Weaver, Many thanks, I will try that one at some point. Need to get everything working after a lighteneing strike first though. Will leave it well alone while it's working for the time being.

I’ve only just noticed that I screwed up the copy-paste in that earlier post and didn't give the URL. I’ve since amended that earlier post and the URL for Johnson’s good stuff, including binaries, is https://github.com/johnson442/custom-zyxel-firmware/releases

I've just moved from a Billion 8800NL to an unbranded Zyxel VMG8924-B10A bought from ebay. The Zyxel came with firmware 1.00(AAKL.10)C0_20151008. I enabled telnet in the WebGUI and used dumpmdm to get the supervisor password and then installed Johnson's 8x24-B10A-28-jumbo-tel-x6-stats1.1-cmd.

The VMG8924-B10A syncs about the same as the Billion but has better wifi and more features. I switched device because I was having difficulty with my connection and needed to try a different router so as to discover whether the problem is with the connection or the router. The Johnson firmware with graphs is excellent. I no longer need to run DSLstats in a virtual machine to monitor my connection, I can do it on the router.

I thought I'd document what I did here in one place. We are 1700m from a Huawei cabinet and, when it works we get a steady 12 mbps down & 1 mbps up. There's no danger of FTTP here in the near future.

Hi I have downloaded the source code.zip from that site but which file do I upload when doing a firmware upgrade via the zyxcel interface?
Looking at the readme under prerequisites it says a working docker installation. Is that this?https://docs.docker.com/desktop/windows/install/
edit - I cannot find a how to flash guide in this thread  :(

You use one of the .bin files according to what features you want.  The Source Code is only if you want to customise it yourself.

Thank you for your help, I just wanted to be safe incase I mucked something up but up and running now with 28-jumbo-tel-x6-stats1.1-cmd firmware.  :graduate:

Since I use it in Bridge mode with an Asus AC87U so I can use Now broadband (option 61), where can I find baby jumbo frame setting? Thank you

If I recall correctly, if you flashed the baby jumbo enabled firmware its set by default on the Zyxel.  Not sure about the ASUS, there's a few users on here who should know.

If you flashed the custom Zyxel firmware then it's already good to go. No config needed.

FYI... If you are on Now Broadband with DHCP Option 61 then there's no PPP, therefore no additional 8 bytes.
You don't need Baby Jumbo Frames on Sky/Now or Talktalk residential.
