Hi

Issues may be completely unconnected with the modem/firmware.  Is the line dropping, or are you just seeing some errors you didn't see before.  It is rare any VDSL line runs with no errors at all, as the design of VDSL (and ADSL) is to work a level of errors in order to push as much data rate into decades old phone cable.  A small amount of errors are completely normal.

Hi

Thanks for this.

Couple more questions - Why does the ftp .it site seem to get higher versions of F/W than the Global site?

I notice one of the directories says Italian dial tone or something similar.

I notice earlier in the thread that there may be different versions of 7?

Thanks

Hi

Because ZyXEL are not very good at support, at least when it comes to consistency across all their sites and regions :(

The Italian site has been responding to posts in the Hwupgrade forum where there is a long thread about issues with the 8924, so my guess is this is why the Italian arm of ZyXEL have more versions of firmware.

The dial tone is the VoIP part of the router which appears more popular in Italy, and looks to be a minor correction so that an Italian dial tone is heard rather than one for another country.

The different versions of 7 should never have happened, this meant I sent a 8924 back to the supplier as faulty, as I was getting problems no one else seemed to get on the same version number of firmware, it was then found later there was a broken 7 and a fixed version 7.

Hi Phil

Thanks for that, find it very odd that they do it this way ???

What's the thoughts on version 10?

I had the drop issues with version 8 and am assuming with the same modem code, 10 will give me the same problems.

Hi

10 has been completely stable for me and no VDSL drops but so was 8. It seems some are getting drops on 8 and 10, and I would think if you had drops on 8 they will also be present on 10.  On!y giving it a try is the only way to know for sure.

New firmware version on italian Zyxel FTP site 11b2!

Could have sworn that wasn't there this morning - another senior moment! Anyway the b2 indicates a beta I believe so although I have downloaded it I might wait a bit before trying it unless I can see a change log which might say what it fixes.

11b2 is based on 11b1 based on 10C0, so 11b2 should be an improvement over 10C0.

Hovewer i am happy to test it,later i'll report my impression here and to Zyxel Support

It wasn't there this morning, unless we're both having a senior moment.  ???

xdsl version still A2pv6F039o1.d26a same as 8 and 10.

Gave 10 another try yesterday, got one re-synch overnight. CRC errors mounting up again so thought would load 11b2 as was about to re synch.

Doesn't look like they are trying to fix modem code with this flurry of releases.

If I drop again it's back to 7. Going on holiday after that so DLM can recover.

Little difference for me so far on 11b2. 24 ES in 40 minutes.
Although HG612 stats monitor tool can no longer talk to the router :(

Gone back to 7.

Was getting that many FEC in 24 hours it was shifting columns in my stats and offending my OCD.  :P

Hi

Could it be versions 7 and below are under reporting FEC and this has been fixed in newer versions of the Broadcom driver?

As I understand it FEC is part of interleaving and shows the number of errors corrected, so is nothing to worry about, the opposite almost in that it confirms error correction is working.

24 ES in 40 minutes is absolutely no problem at all, that's pretty good.  VDSL like ADSL is designed to always run with some errors, it is how they push so much down old telephone cable.  As a percentage of the total packets transmitted in 40 minutes it is statistically irrelevant.

It could just be this newer Broadcom driver is the fixed one, and the older versions are broken and mis-reporting, perhaps across every Broadcom based VDSL modem using these older Broadcom driver versions?
