Try the 6b1 version first and then if that works do the 8b2 version.

That's the way I did it, 6b1 then 8b2, success first time.

don't know about this router, but some prefer the PC on a static IP when flashing.

Good point. I always use static addresses anyway.

Success  :D

Changed to another laptop (both were Win 8.1), used Chrome again, tried the 8b bin I downloaded initially and it worked first time so thanks for the thoughts.

All set up ready for a try tomorrow - I think it also makes sense to change the device IP to 192.168.1.254 as that's the gateway everything else is set to and would allow a quick revert to the HG612/582n if needs be without reconfiguration....

I set a Static DNS to the OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) - I've had terrible trouble with Google's over the past few days, taking ages to find and load BBC pages and often not succeeding. Changed to OpenDNS and instant transformation and loading.

Yay !
You can depend on Windows to get in the way when you don't need it
The ip change makes sense.
I use Opendns as standard everywhere, never been a problem.

I've had a response from ZyXel that says I need to go to v5 first! However, reboot again confirms it is on 8b..

Is there a way of checking settings somewhere to confirm that it's 'taken'. Like a G.INP setting?

TIA

Login to the GUI Under Connection Status click the RH Status button in the middle of the screen it'll report Device Information there. Another way is to telnet into the router and confirm via the command: swversion

Mine reports - 1.00(AAKL.8)b2

Any reports regarding the stability of this latest firmware? I'm just wondering as Tyke had reported some resyncs which sounds as if they didn't appear with the previous firmware.

Using mine in bridge mode exclusively so at least to me the one single important thing is a reliable modem connection to the cab without any disconnections.

Well it connected and synched at first attempt but otherwise a disaster.....

A TBB speed test showed loss of 3Mb/s down and 0.6 up. However, bigger problem was that of the 5 terminals available here, every one failed to connect to the internet except for the one I ran the speed test on (and they all go through the same Cisco switch) . All adaptors have always had 192.168.1.254 as the gateway and as the ZyXel now has that as its IP it should have worked out of the box.

Even worse, the MDWS server was failing to pick up anything incoming. I tried running the MDWS web page locally on it which should not be any problem - and it went to www.mydslwebstats.co.uk - but showing the ZyXel logon page :o

I can't spend any more time on it at the moment but ideas would be welcome.....  Maybe a misconfig on the Zyxel?

Back on HG612/582n at the moment and all is normal

Thanks a lot for the reply. This sounds as if they'll still have to iron out the bugs... this is not a "release/officially stable" firmware version, is it? So in that case it should be fine and especially after a change of the modem driver things like these can be expected. Hoping that it'll just take a while and the bugfix releases will make the firmware even better than the ones with the old driver.

I'm running L8b2 as a router only connected to the HG612 purely to maintain connection stability and avoid DLM intervention. As a router L8b2 seems to be stable compared to other releases.

Just tried his for a second time, and again lots of resyncs, so back to the old firmware.

Hi

No resyncs happening here in the beta 8 firmware.  Up for over 2 days now and all stable.

Regards

Phil
