It doesn't seem to be listed on the TP-Link website yet, and it has taken over half an hour to download 72% of it so far.

Does anyone know if TP-Link disabled the shell access since it's a non-beta firmware? It's not easy to tell just from examining the binaries in the firmware.

Available here http://www.tplink.com/en/download/TD-W9980_V1.html#Firmware very slow to download. Yes, shell access has been disabled again.

I should imagine they will have.  From my experience in the past,  all the beta f/w has shell access, but they disable it as soon as released officially.

Since my provider ( GVT ) doesn't use G.INP yet and the beta firmware looks to be pretty stable, I will stay with it .

Thanks, that's what I expected about shell access. The firmware is also visible on the uk.tp-link.com website now also.

"3.Improved the performance of Wireless 5GHz in short distances."

Any one know what they did?

I am having terrible Wi-Fi problems since moving the unit to be in its permanent home beside the  mastersocket. Basically cant use Wi-Fi in the roofspace where I need it most

Wish we could bump the transmit power up, the same 2.4Ghz wifi chip in other units appears to transmit with a lot more power.

I can confirm they have disabled SH access in that latest firmware.

The useless TPLink telnet stuff is still there though.

As noted else where you can just start your own copy of telnet via serial connection.

There is some random ..stuff.. going on with regional wifi limits for the 5Ghz, first image is set in UK region - 2nd is Australia.

No conclusions yet since I don't have any antennas atm to test. Several countries allowed 199mw which seemed like a huge percent of improvement, then Canada blew that away at 700mw odd.. then Australia above..

But anyone with Antennas want to check for increased range while setting to Canada or Australia.

Edit: I should add that its probably a few multiple times over the UK legal limit  :-X

edit: 2.4GHz improvement by setting to Japan

If you achieve it by means of the MAC cloning facility, then yes, that is available in the new firmware.
