this 4db snrm is shaky, last few days had some bursts of errors around 7pm each day, so far DLM has ignored.  connection otherwise fine tho, personally dont care about1-2 mins of errors per day but concerned about dlm.

Hello Chry

you know with a low SNRM of 4dB and errors this will not go un-noticed by the DLM, other Kitizens advised me to turn off the modem (30 minutes) before it gets worse (for you it may take you back to Interleave in the worst case) if you were to stay at your current settings, The choice is yours to make or just leave it as is and see it how it go's.

I resynced the modem today, its still 4db, so I now have a target 4db snrm.

DLM makes decisions based on 24 hours, meaning if its ignoring now then I am below its threshold, these errors arent that high just higher than I was used to and only for a short time period each day.  But obviously a different day it might go above the threshold.

Thats is very odd Chry as you know the target margin is 6dB on any FTTC product, so with 4dB are you seeing an Increase in attainable and sync than when you were on 6 - 7 dB ?

would like to see your SNRM Graph for 24 hours.

Well have you been mucking around using telnet to change settings in the Modem if so then that's the issue, if not then could you get your hands on new FTTC modem and test incase that modem is telling you fibs or the stats software is leading you up a garden path   :(

Just a thought......................................

Has your HG612 modem's firware been updated (possibly at 01:00, 15th April)?

I vaguely recall you mentioning at some time that you were using a version that blocks the auto-update.

If, as NS wonders, you have somehow managed to lower target SNRM via some setting or via telnet, I'd love to know how.

My connection's SNRM is pretty stable at around 6dB, but sync speeds are low.
I'm sure it would run at 3dB or 4dB, giving me a speed increase without any issues.

If I remember back to less than a year ago BE1 I had a strange sync of 4.6dB and went down to 3dB in the evenings it gave me just over 40000 Kbps attainable and I thought yea ha my BT line is using DS band 3 it did not last long just under 5 days.

Edit I found it.

nope not touched any of that.

I will post the snrm graph later, sorry been a bit busy with work stuff.  But I can tell you the downstream snrm is stable, upstream fluctuates a bit in daytime.

Edit I found it.

that is a gradual drop clearly due to line conditions.

my snrm pretty much doesnt budge its flat, and changed during DLM hours during a resync event.

I am ok with it like this tho as enjoying the extra speed, just as long as DLM doesnt bump me to interleaving for the extra errors, as averaging around 3k a day now.

--edit-- adding 14day graph so can see handover.

Hi Chrys,

Your speed increase is interesting.

I've noticed a jump in my attainable and current recently but not as much as yours. My speed went up by about 3mb. The SNRM still showed 6db though. This lasted for about a week and then my SNRM dropped to 5db with speed staying the same.

I think if I was to reboot I would lose the extra speed now as my SNRM has dropped, but looking at your outcome I'm hoping this may not be the case.

I'm guessing that a neighbour of mine was away during Easter and may have switched his/her modem off reducing some crosstalk. On his/her return my SNRM dropped due to the modem being switched on.

I had a larger jump in sync speed than attainable but that graph seems to be missing.

the sync went from 65 to 75.

custard in your case the snr dropped without a resync which suggests to me its not a target snrm change but just change of line conditions, in my case my line now syncs up with a target snrm of 4db.

You said you turn off the FTTC modem was wondering for how long, you could go for a 12 hour power down and see if the SNRM increases.
