There was an alternative though: Fujitsu!!! But they gave up as they couldn't compete with the constantly favoured BT!!!

Couldn't compete ….. or couldn't get the 'numbers' quite right ?? If they had all the relevant skills, resources and were willing to wait an estimated 20yrs to see a return on their cash, then all they had to do was give a competitive quote to BT's to win a contract, I'm guessing ??

I'm secretly betting they didn't want to wait the 20yrs ……. just like ALL the others initially tendering ??  ;)

Fujitsu withdrew from the tender process stating.....

"Various conditions surrounding the BDUK process, which we have discussed with the DCMS, effectively rule Fujitsu out of the competition for new areas. So while we remain supportive of the process and its objectives, we are not actively pursuing opportunities within it. Our focus now is very much on urban and city opportunities with our partners such as CityFibre Holdings."

'Various conditions surrounding the BDUK process' = 'We won't make any profit for donkeys years'
'Our focus is on urban and city opportunities' = 'That's where the quick returns are'.
