XTE-2005 / BT Openreach vDSL iPlate Mk2 Comparison

After several weeks of issues and repeated call-outs from BTO I have finally had a very noisy line sorted. Corroded tails at the top of the pole!

I run a basic Zoom X4 Modem on a line with 49db Att. Synch rates have improved significantly since the tails were sorted. Proir to the fault I could get 3.0 to 3.5 Mb. Now it will pull in excess of 5.5!

A couple of days ago I decided to have a play with DSLStats. Today I decided to swap out the XTE-2005 faceplate with the latest BTO VDSL Mk2 and got snapshots of the SNR per Tone before and after.

XTE-2005
                Down            Up
SNR (dB):       6.6             20.0
Attn(dB):       49.0            31.0
Pwr(dBm):       19.8            12.3
Max(Kbps):      6496            1076
Rate (Kbps):    5920            448

IPlate Mk2
                Down            Up
SNR (dB):       6.3             20.0
Attn(dB):       49.0            31.0
Pwr(dBm):       19.8            12.3
Max(Kbps):      6560            1084
Rate (Kbps):    6016            448

^-^  Now that you have made your first post, I can finally say "Welcome to the Kitz forum."

Congratulations in getting the corroded joints remade. That extra 2.0 - 2.5 Mbps DS will no doubt be worth the effort involved!

Looking at your two data sets and graphs, there does not seem to be any real significant difference in the results obtained.  :-\

I am unfamiliar with the Zoom X4 device, so I don't know if it will be possible but it would be really interesting to see the QLN graphs from your line with each of those two centralised filters connected, in turn.

Thanks for the welcome Burakkucat. The most noticeable difference is a smoothing of the curves above tone 200. I'll dig out the QLN graphs.

Now that you have mentioned it, I can see a subtle difference.

Thank you. They could be interesting.

Unfortunately these two are from different times of day so the value of comparison is not as good as I hoped.

Thank you for those graphs. Again, slight subtle differences but nothing particularly striking.

My conclusion -- on a G.Dmt / ADSL2 / ADSL2+ service, either of those two centralised filters would be appropriate.  :)

One thing you may be able to help with Bcat. I cannot obtain bit loading info from the Zoom X4. The adsl info --Bits command returns a Tones and Bits header but no data. Is this a common problem or a bug in the X4 firmware perhaps?

adsl info --Bits
adsl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime  Retrain Reason:       4
Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 448 Kbps, Downstream rate = 4928 Kbps
Tone number      Bit Allocation

Very sorry but I do not have any experience of the Zoom X4:no:

I have never come across such a fault before and can only assume it is specific to that version of the firmware.  :-\

That's also my experience with a 17dB ADSL2+ line.

No appreciable difference in overall performance, sync, throughput, or any DSLStats parameters whether using the XTE 2005 or the vDSL MkII.

I'd be happy to accept that it might be a different story if REIN was involved.
