Can you read the Lidl online weekly leaflet on Linux?
« on: March 27, 2014, 05:17:55 PM »

Hi,

I have just upgraded to the latest flash player 11.2.202.346 for 64 bit Linux on Slackware 14.0.

The flash player crashes when I try to see the latest Lidl online leaflet for 3-9 April at:
http://leaflet.lidl.co.uk/80f1b9d9-22a5-4d5d-a0c8-dca34b66b122/?ar=2

I'm OK with the leaflet for 22 Mar - 2 Apr at:
http://www.lidl-pageflip.com/uk.html?kid=wXBrNn&ar=2

I think that the latest leaflet is in a new format, as previously it didn't seem to use flash.

Anyway - do other Linux users have the same problem or is it OK.

I'm a bit surprised if they have just moved to flash, as I thought it was on the way out, and isn't supported on iPad or Android

Cheers,
Peter

Its not the Linux distro, its the browser.  Adobe stopped releasing Linux plugins for FF etc at V11.2.  Newer flash stuff needs a later plugin but the only way I know of on Linux to do this is to either install Chrome, which comes with Flash Player and gets updates, or find a way to install the pepper flash plugin that Chrome uses.

Ubuntu has a ppa for the pepper flash plugin, which is why I'm running Chromium, and presumably why Lidl's online leaflet works for me.

Details on the ppa and the needed files can be found here.  As its Ubuntu, and thats based off Debian, I would imagine a little bit of tinkering should see it working on Debian also. Arch Linux also has pepper flash available.  Fedora I have no clue about !!

Ta for the answers.

I've complained to Lidl and am waiting for a reply. Why the hell they changed it is beyond me. It was perfectly fine as it was.
Maybe I'll go look at their twitter page and tweet a complaint.

No way I'm going to change browsers - had problems last time I tried with Chromium.
Anyway, it isn't supported on my slightly old version of Slackware.

Cheers,
Peter
