I shall wait umtil it's fully reassembled before I give you a round of applause (provided it still works!) but it will be richly deserved.

Ye hath little faith   :D

Reassembly complete, all buttons & led segments work, and  tested by setting alarm to 6am and clock to 5:59 and waiting patiently… and rewarded by gradually loudening 'beep beep, beep BEEP, BEEP BEEP'.  Exactly as in days of old..   :graduate:

The radio works fine too, but seems a bit odd…  No matter how many times I try, whenever it hits 6am it just seems to play the same 'I got you babe', by Sonny & Cher.   I'll tackle that another day.   ;)

That certainly earns applause from me. :clap2:

I don't think you'll be able to do anything about Sonny and Cher without radical action (e.g. change channel). ;D

......
OK, I promise to report back, even if it's only to admit I've wasted £5 (and six or seven hours of time).    :D
IIRC there used to be a value per hour of leisure time, I think calculated for insurance and project valuation.

So, then, I would guess that £5 is the iceberg tip of SLM's hobby cost. >:D :D

You could be right

And stupidly of course, I initially misdiagnosed the fault,  so that £5 could needn't have been spent.  The real cost of materials being a more 1p or so for a resistor.
