Having had a
very nasty experience with Ubuntu a year a so ago
I have held off trying Linux. Your posts above have given me new heart so I downloaded PCLOS, and just for a giggle, Ubuntu again.
The PCLOS live CD works well, the only hardware not detected is the HP950c printer, although drivers are available.
I then tried the Ubuntu CD, it started (eventually) and after 2 cups of tea and a prolonged fag break in the garden it, at last, showed the typical Ubuntu desktop in fetching shades of brown
.
And there it froze
(again).
This was the 64 Bit version. As I have an AMD 64 bit (single core) processor with 2Gb of RAM it seemed the logical one to try.
PCLOS does look very interesting though, I may buy another hard disk and install onto that.
Bought Linux format mag today, with the PCLOS and Fedora cover mounts. So I now have PCLOS (2 copies) , PCLOS with the Gnome desktop, Ubuntu,
Fedora 8 (2 Copies).
Time to play.
