BT Wi-fi
« on: December 19, 2013, 11:24:57 AM »

Not sure I am in the right part of the forum.

Anyway I have free BT Wi-fi and it seems to work (connected to next doors) but my hub is not sending out BT Wi-fi and is not set up to do so.

My question is can you make this happen yourself so as you can use BT Wi-fi when out and about but not be part of the system.  :)

I have my own idea how it can be done:

Register for BT Wi-fi and get it working.
Hub may update and broadcast the connection.
Factory reset hub and it may turn off.

The above is a guess because I can't test it but if anyone knows for  sure how to do it let me know.

Once you have registered for BT Wifi you remain registered, thus you opt in. Your hub can then be used by other wifi users. You become a Hotspot. Even if you reboot the router you are still opted in. Is this what youu mean?

No, I am opted in but my router is not sharing my connection, well not yet.

What I was asking can we make this happen?

In my case it is just the result of a messed up order.

As far as I know you don't change any settings on your router/home hub. I certainly haven't and it is acting like a hotspot, because my neighbour can log on to it. Even after a reboot it is still available to the BT Wifi service.

My experience is that you can't.  You just agree to enable it and BT will set it up using remote admin via TR069.  If you look at the event log you see this happened whenever the router is booted.  It takes a few fays between agreeing to be part of BT WiFi and having it available on your router.
