DSLstats v4.30 released
« on: December 02, 2013, 03:40:22 PM »

One new feature - graphs of upstream and downstream SNRM per band for VDSL2 connections - plus several small bugfixes.

Full list of changes since v4.21:

- fixed issue in which the bitswaps per tone compression value wasn't restored after a restart
- fixed issue in which the snapshot category folders option wasn't restored after a restart
- fixed issue of blank attenuation values on Stats page when one reported value is zero
- fixed issue of blank files of custom commands text being saved when the option to display the
data in the event log is chosen
- added graphs of SNRM per band for VDSL2 connections

Thank you Eric:)

One minor defect noticed -- the "SNRM per band" graphs currently ignore the configuration set for the background colour.

Whoops :)  Thanks for letting me know, I'll fix that in the next release.

No problem, as it's just a minor cosmetic "blemish".  :)

The new graphs are a useful addition. However, large drops in downstream SNR margin aren't showing compared to other graphs and vice versa. Presumably this is a timing issue due to the way SNR margin per band is calculated or the modem itself? Unfortunately the graphs I had weren't saved (user error) but I can replicate the results tomorrow.

I think that's the nature of any sampling process. The program reads the values reported by the modem at intervals of several seconds. If there's a big short-lived drop in the SNRM between samples, it won't be seen.

I had assumed (wrongly?) that the graphs 'SNR Margin' and 'SNRM per Band' were derived from the same sample (xdslcmd info --linediag) . I can see that there could be slight differences if that isn't the case.

The SNRM per Band data comes directly from the output of the command xdslcmd info --pbParams

Hey Roseway,

Got a couple of bugs to report (connected together), the SNRM per bands only picks up U0 and U1.

pbParams shows

xdslcmd info --pbParams
xdslcmd: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason:   0
Last initialization procedure status:   0
Max:   Upstream rate = 5269 Kbps, Downstream rate = 27524 Kbps
Bearer:   0, Upstream rate = 5308 Kbps, Downstream rate = 28160 Kbps

Discovery Phase (Initial) Band Plan
US: (6,31) (882,1193) (1984,2770)
DS: (33,857) (1218,1959) (2795,4083)
Medley Phase (Final) Band Plan

I think that's all you will need? The rest are grayed out in SNRM per bands I assume this means inactive?

Nice update!

@ryant704: I've changed the section of code which tidies up the pbParams formatting, to make it more general, and it looks as though this has managed to lose your downstream data. I assume that your posting here: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=13328.msg250850#msg250850 shows the raw pbParams data as it's received from your modem?

Sorry about this, I'll check it out ASAP.

I have fixed it - I changed the directory folder name but the "save image to" directory remained the old one and because of that it would not work, I managed to get into and change it but then had to terminate the program and re-run it to get it work....phew! :)

Thanks for letting me know that, snadge. It's made me think that I need to try to cover that situation a bit more gracefully in future, but I'm pleased you sorted it out. :)
