Free £5.00 from Virgin Media
« on: December 31, 2007, 01:59:35 AM »

Okay you will probably have to get in quick if you want one as stocks are limited.

Virgin Media are giving away a free Sim card with £5.00 credit included.
Just complete the form and wait possibly for 2 weeks delivery.

I don't mind "some" junk mail, but when it comes to phone junk calls then I draw the line, so in the box asking for my mobile number I left it blank and the form was still accepted.

That means I'll have to learn how to use my mobile when it arrives to be able to use-up the £5.00 (which would normally last me about 2-3 months).

Anyone thinking "God its Virgin" need not worry as Virgin don't have a mobile network to destroy (like their cable/ADSL network) Virgin are a virtual operator and all services are provided by T-Mobile.

As an aside I've found that if you phone up any real operator and say "Hi, I'm on <competitor name's network> and I'm not very happy with them, can you send me a free SIM card" then they are more than happy to do so ;) They usually don't preload it with £5 though :)

Edit - I did this because I travel to places nearer the Arctic than London so having lots of SIMs usually helps find some coverage.

I wouldn't really know Steph... (where's a whistling smilie when you need one)

Neway I thought Virgin Mobile rented their airspace from Orange, but I could be wrong... I must admit I've been with Virgin PAYG since 1999 (still on my original SIM card) and have no complaints about them. :)

Nah, Virgin have always been T-Mobile (who used to be Deutsch Telecom IIRC). Most of the other virtual operators (tesco, asda etc) use O2 - which used to be Cellnet (BT). I don't think Orange resell their services to anyone but I haven't really looked.

I've had a mobile on Virgin for years and apart from the execrable website (don't ever think about topping up there as it usually times out) they have been fine.
