MTU Vista advice(hope I havent got the wrong forum)
« on: October 04, 2007, 08:39:04 PM »

Hi, Im getting very frustrated with the MTU Vista set up.
Ive had problems getting onto sites all week from mine and my girlfriends laptop. After being sent to this site I sorted the laptop with XP but...Vista..

Ive gone into the page that explains but am getting confused with one part.
It tells you to open command prompt admin.(done this)
ipconfig/all (done)
then tells you -- If you are going to be changing your MTU settings make a note of the exact names of the network devices ie "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection".
This is the bit getting me(I know I prob sound/look really stupid) network device name???

where do I see this on the command prompt?

Hi and welcome :)

When youve done ipconfig /all you should get something like this:-

On the example above I have 2 network devices and their names are listed exactly after the word "adapter"

1) The Ethernet adapter - Name = "Local Area Connection"
2) The Wireless LAN adapter - Name = "Wireless Network Connection"

Hope this info helps - if not get back to us showing what ipconfig has printed out and we'll have a look for you :)

Good Luck

btw

>> I know I prob sound/look really stupid

Not at all - its a very valid question - in fact I will change the page when I get a mo to try and make it a bit clearer. :)
