My testing at work would suggest that it isn't waiting, as you can see both ran at the same time.

Oh my - you really jumped in at the deep end with 'C' then.   

Even more impressed that its all done via CLI.   I suppose it saves having to learn an IDE.  Whilst I learnt most of what I did using editors, if I were to convert to a different language I'd certainly make use of any environment an IDE would give.  Takes the hard work out of some of the repetitive stuff and time trawling through libraries to find what you want.   
Im not proud nor snobbish, give me an easy option if its there.
