Avatars II
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:58:55 PM »

Having got my really stupid AND lazy hat on today:

1.  What are the requirements in terms of size for an uploaded Avatar, most seem to 65 pixels Sq , what about file size?

2. Can I upload from my PC direct or must I use an intermediary like PhotoBucket?

Pretty sure you can upload from your PC.
Check-out the settings in your Profile.

I tried uploading a picture to here from "Photobucket" yesterday but the result was only to show all of the text.
Then I tried it on a different forum and it pasted OK.

max size pixel is 80x80,
As to file size - I dont think theres an individual file size limit as such.
However, there is a limit on the folder size in which those that have been uploaded are all stored..  so if any one av in particular takes up too much room then I will probably have to ask said person to remove.

You can upload direct from PC.. or you should be able to link.

hey OF..

what you trying to upload.. if you want to give me the url, I can have a look see why it doesnt seem to be working.

One thing to bear in mind if you are thinking of how CA does their image links.. they use html code ie <img>
This (and most other) forum uses BBS (Bulletin Board Software) Code
Therefore the required tags use square brackets []

eg

Code: [Select]
[img]http://url of image[/img]

When you edit your profile to change the avatar, one of the options is to upload a local file. That's what I did, and it was painless (apart from a temporary bit of confusion on my part).

Thanks Kitz.
This was the one I tried Using "Tag" from Photobucket:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l39/oldfogy/Guinness.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

Test
[a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"][img src="http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l39/oldfogy/Guinness.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"][/a]

Hi OF

All you need on this forum is the bit that says  http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l39/oldfogy/Guinness.gif
and you then wrap these with the img tags... like this

Code: [Select]
[img]http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l39/oldfogy/Guinness.gif[/img]

This software even tries to make it easier for you...  if you look up above the smilies when making a post..
2nd row, 2nd icon from the left there is a little icon of a picture.
If you press that it inserts the img tags for you...  you then insert the url in between

As you have probably found out by now, I found the last option (bottom) in Photobucket did the trick "img"

Good Lord it worked.

All I have to do now is figure why smilies show as javascript:void(0);
Huh?

I can see everybody elses, but not mine own.  I simply get javascript:void(0);Cry or javascript:void(0);Huh?or even javascript:void(0);Shocked

Javascript is on, I will try another browser, from the many in my small but perfectly formed collection.

Now using Avant (IE6 based) rather than K-Ninja (Mozilla based).  Just the same, Javascript is fully enabled on both.  Am I doing it right, left click and drag into the message field?

Like the slightly blurry avatar?  This is Cat #2 performing her Dracula impersonation  >:D.

Aha! Perhaps it's just K-Ninja. ;D  But my previous posts still just show the Javascript message.
