Can you stay on o2/BE with Xilo or Aquiss
« on: September 11, 2013, 12:30:06 AM »

..as Sky have supposedly only bought the customers from o2 and BE then this must mean one can retain a o2/BE connection through a different Telefonica wholesaler like Xilo or Aquiss.... is this correct? - I know someone who is thinking of moving from BE to either of these and has been in contact with them about it... I just wanted to be 100% certain one can do this before I started offering it up as advice to someone else...

thanks

the wholesale service still exists yes but I think its only backhaul, not the peering side.

but dont these ISPs (Xilo / Aquiss) use o2/BE DSLAMs ...? if that where the case they would be closing down or moving to sky or other ISP wouldnt they?

dslams are part of the backhaul service.

so as far as I know O2 wholesale will remain O2/BE dslams and the backhaul up to the isp's network, then the isp takes over the traffic.  Sky just brought O2 retail.

However I just read this, so now I am not sure.

But the O2/BE Wholesale business, which supplies ISPs and corporate customers, was retained by O2 (note: the networks will still be integrated).

In theory aaisp shouldnt have been concerned but the fact they felt the need to move raises questions.

I havent commented, because theres so much different stuff thats been said.  Im not sure if even Sky themselves know what they are going to do yet  ???

I was told a few months ago by someone supposedly in authority at telephonica/o2 that o2 migrations were to commence on the 1st of Aug.  Things may have been a bit delayed, but it would certainly appear that o2 customers are going to be moved over to the sky msans.   So do you really think sky are going to keep Be MSANs running when they may only have a handful of users - I think not.   Take my msan, once the o2's have gone and the other be users migrated elsewhere*..  its just not going to be viable.

*Speak to any pleb around here and theyve never heard of Be* all the other Be users I do know have already upsticks because the timing of the sky takeover and fttc arriving in the town was rather opportune.   Far more likely theyd put them on the sky MSAN but on their own VP/VC, and run them separate, just like they did with Easynet/UKO for a while.   This may then give them the opportunity to configure different profiles etc - but despite all the talk so far, Ive not seen anything which indicates they will retain Be's DLM other than suggest they will look at it.

kitz I see you refer to BE's DLM but I thought they had no DLM.

Didn't BE have static dslam profiles?  The user could pick a profile in their panel and it was then permanent?

Stop being picky - you knew what I meant  :P  Its Be's non-DLM DLM   ;D  :D ;)

But yes you are correct.. its not dynamic..  its a line profile which the users set themselves.

Naw..  sorry...  its more out of habit when people say Be's DLM system.. or I like Be's DLM, when to be correct it should be just LM system.

There is something weird about the interleaving aspect though in that sometimes a deeper level of interleaving gets set during the first few week and the EU cant switch it off themselves. It doesnt happen often but if you search the Be forum going back a few years there are a few cases.

FWIW I have just signed up with Aquiss to move from o2 to o2W/Sale instead of my original plan to go to PlusNet.  I am led to understand that new 2yr contracts are just about or have started for resellers of o2W/Sale.
