There's some information on the Broadcom CLI here: http://wiki.kitz.co.uk/index.php/Broadcom_CLI

If you look at the graph, you'll see that Ian's choice of an snr value of 85 corresponds with a change in target SNRM of -1 dB, which is what he wanted.

For anyone wondering I managed to get it to work, thanks for the help everyone.

A brief overview of my settings -

Firewall disabled on HG612
QoS disabled on HG612
DHCP diabled on HG612
PTM connections deleted under WAN
ATM connection set to bridged mode and PPPoE bridge type
Asus router IP added as DMZ on HG612
LAN 2 connected to one of router ports 1-4 and LAN 1 connected to router WAN port, allowing access to GUI and internet connectivity.
HG612 IP set to 192.168.0.50, Asus router kept on 192.168.0.1

The main thing that seemed to solve the issue for me was that under the ATM tab setting the encapsulation type to LLC instead of VC MUX and the Asus router connected first time without problem.

Hopefully my sync speed starts to go back to normal soon after all these disconnects its gone through today. Prior to this I was using the EE router as a modem and passing the connection through DCHP to the asus but this was causing problems with port forwarding and nat on some applications, so hopefully this solves it. Now the wait for FTTC continues.

Does anyone managed to do this with a Sky ADSL connection? Been struggling a lot :(

I'm really struggling to get this to work. I have a Asus AC68U. I have followed biohead's settings but that doesn't work, anything on the AC68U need changing, am I correct the WAN port needs to be set to PPPoE?

Morning,

I think the encapsulation has to be LLC

I had an issue (with BT) with the pppoe connection using the bridge settings I posted in that thread, I am on an old g.dmt only exchange; I retired my HG612.

I now run a hg635 (talk-talk super router) in bridge mode using LLC not VC-mux.

For BT VDSL2, if you are using PPPoEoA, does it nowadays always have to be LLC MUX, VC-MUX no longer allowed? Is that correct?

If so, why is this different to ADSL which I think allows either PPPoEoA + LLC or VC-MUX with PPPoA on the WAN: for example with the DrayTek Vigor 120/130 where I believe you get the highest performance on the WAN link due to minimal overheads because of its use of PPPoA, while on the LAN side it changes changes to PPPoE. It's so obviously the right way to do things - why on earth doesn't everyone do it that way?

In VDSL2, is it because they actually want Ethernet framing for some reason? Even though it just seems like extra unnecessary cruft. So that they can have VLAN tags?

Actually, is there a BT SIN for all this? For ADSL and VDSL?

I have these two configured, rest I don't think is important. also tried LLC. LLC does not connect with my Netgear DG834 which I'm replacing, but VC-MUX works fine.

I so wish BT didn't drop support for PPPoE!

Attached are my settings for the AC68

Use LLC not VCMUX
Use bthomehub@btbroadband.com as the username

Got it! Disable "Enable VPN + DHCP Connection" on the AC68 PPPoE settings.

Hopefully it may help someone else one day, as this is selected by default.

The default config of the HG612 is a Vdsl bridge using PTM for Openreach FTTC.
