I sent a copy of the 039 adsl_phy.bin file from the ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A firmware to Luiz in Brazil who has a Sagemcom F@st 5350 GV.
He obtained a good improvement in the attainable rates. Here is his reply. I though it would be of interest and he said I could post it. (note that it contains a useful reference re adsl_phy's)

First impression in my long line, is about 1100 meters from DSLAM.
Max. down rate raise in more 10mbps, my band plan is lock to 2600Kbps UP and 27500Kbps DOWN.

Another change is BitSwaps, I have about 25 swaps/min, now have about 3 swaps/min.
