So, the concensus is that he's getting the best he can and that there's no actual 'problem' with equipment as such, except for possible aluminium cable in the run somewhere - is that correct chaps?

Yes, sorry to say. :(

Hi and welcome :)

I'm an FTTC n00b myself and bow to the knowledge of others when it comes to FTTC matters - it tends to be something you only learn when you have the product and experience it first hand.

However applying 'adsl knowledge' I can only back up Colin & B*cats observation that the attenuation in the 3rd band as displayed in the Hlog file is too high for any bitloading to occur in that band.

During synchronisation the line conditions are analysed and if certain tones dont contain enough SNR to load the bins, then the router marks them as unusable... which is why '0' will be showing on some of those graphs.

[Edit] Our good friend Bald_Eagle_1 on here has VDSL on a very long ~1Km D-side, and although he once could get as much as 30Mb/s DS (less than your friend), he can now get only 20Mb/s.  :( :(

Oh dear, that must be SO frustrating!!   :'(

Frustrating is far more polite than the word that sticks in my mind  >:( >:(

We're all learning here, so don't worry if something is not immediately obvious.  There are quite a few people around who could use the services of a good cable jointer!   ;);D

I would echo all the other comments too.

Perhaps aluminium cabling in the D-side or perhaps 650 - 700 metres of copper. If you can get sight of the relevant network records, that may disclose all.  ;)

Mr. Kat sir, I take my hat off to you - I've just seen the cable records and the line length from the cab is...... 700 meters and all copper!!

Many thanks to all of you for your help - at least we now know that there's nothing that can be done because there's no fault as such, just the laws of physics. Cheers  :)

Hello.
Maybe you or a 'mod' can change your title on your first post to something better for people searching the forum.  ;)
