DLM switched off?
« on: August 23, 2013, 11:24:32 AM »

As the title says....is this possible?

Since my engineer visit last Thursday, my line does seem to be better (profile rates have remained 80/20) but I am still getting a lot of re-syncs. But there has been no DLM intervention like before. In fact, it's done absolutely nothing ???

Makes me think it's been tuned off? Can it be?

My stats for the last week show plenty of line drops.....today there has been a good dozen already. I have seen that there are more re-syncs daytime than during the nights.

I am awaiting another OR engineer visit to be arranged by PN

And another thing, my stats show only 2 re-syncs since last Thursday. I'm sure the graphing software is missing some info here.

Anyway, here's my logfile and previous 24 hr stats attached

Very interesting (for us observers, if not for you)!  From the up-time graph it seems that you have had at least 11 separate active sessions over the last two days, like you thought, and on occasions it seems the modem struggled to get back and maintain sync between some of those.

Although I must admit some surprise that DLM hasn't intervened yet (can you remind us which ISP you are with), I am not aware that DLM can be disabled in this way - if so, prepare for a lot of people wanting to know how you achieved that. :D

When you say
Quote
my stats show only 2 re-syncs since last Thursday
which stats are you referring to (i.e. which bit of information leads you to say that)? In the current stats folder of HG612_modem_stats there is a file called resync.log.  What does that say?  I believe that in v1.1 BE1 has improved his resync detection, and no longer relies solely on detecting a change in sync speed to infer that a resync has occured, but he'll be able to give you the full story.

But your line looks quite ill at the moment with large numbers of CRCs, ESs and even worse SES.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Colin.

ISP is Plusnet. The OR engineer reset my DLM by options on his phone last week, not by a call centre call.

The re-syncs I got from BE's RESYNC file........the first from last week's OR engineer visit, the 2 that I mentioned in my first post and 2 new ones that happened in-between my 2 posts!

15/08/2013 13:19 - RESYNC detected (DS 79999 Kbps, US 20000 Kbps) Retrain Reason: 2
22/08/2013 16:14 - RESYNC detected (DS 78892 Kbps, US 20000 Kbps) Retrain Reason: 1
22/08/2013 16:16 - RESYNC detected (DS 79999 Kbps, US 20000 Kbps) Retrain Reason: 1
23/08/2013 11:22 - RESYNC detected (DS 40892 Kbps, US 20000 Kbps) Retrain Reason: 2
23/08/2013 12:29 - RESYNC detected (DS 79999 Kbps, US 20000 Kbps) Retrain Reason: 2

Have just taken some stats for the last few hours, wow what a mess, but still no DLM?? See attached.

Here's my TBB graph to show the mess....

I have seen DLM be brutal on my connection for this sort of mess, but it just seems to ignore it all since the last reset?

I'm afraid that's still on my 'things to do' list.

Resyncs reported in the FULL_MONTY graphs are correct as they do show connection up time (AS).

The RESYNC.LOG in the Current_Stats folder is still only updated whenever DS or US or both sync speeds alter.
That is relevant for many users who do see slightly differing sync speeds, but not actually relevant for users achieving 'banded' speeds due to DLM detecting previous errors or connections that are capped at maximum service level speeds, yet able to theoretically achieve higher speeds as reported by the Attaninable (Max) rates.

Ahhhh that explains that then ;)

Well 2 weeks further on and I'm still getting plenty of DSL re-syncs each day. More occurs during the hours of 8am till 6pm-ish.....but DLM is still not kicked in. Here's the TBB's from the last few days......

And everyday is like that.

So again, is it possible to turn DLM off of maybe suspend it?

By all rights, my profile should've been hammered to death by now, like it was before.

I think the disconnect side of DLM is not that sensitive, a few others have reported been able to disconnect many times a day without it triggering but your graphs indicate quite a lot of possible disconnections.

DLM cannopt be turned off officially.  So if its off its a fault, regardless your line merits a engineer visit anyway for the instability.  Report to your isp it keeps dropping out.

Well if it is a fault......I'm keeping mum ;)

I have an on-going ticket with Plusnet, there sorting out an OR engineer at the moment....there is one 'Blue-Been' joint left on my line back to the CPC.....I'm hoping that the next engineer is as good as the last one was and remakes it.

If you want DLM to stay off (if its off), just report the disconnects and dont mention anything about DLM, the average user doesnt know about DLM anyway.  Surely its not worth putting up with disconnects just to have no DLM?

I dont think the BToR DLM always catches quick resyncs.   From my own experience WOOSH doesnt seem to log them either.
