Router of choice for monitoring xDSL line?
« on: August 08, 2013, 09:07:14 AM »

Hi All,

Since finding out about RouterStats and DSLstats I was wondering which was the router of choice for carrying out monitoring?

I have, from time to time the need to get involved with broadband issue for others and can see how these fantastic apps can make the job easier.

thanks

For adsl2+ any of the supported routers really, its more down to what router works best on what lines..  and its not always the same.

For example the 2Wire routers are considered very good for long lines, but not so good for shorter lines.
Those on shorter lines seem to do well with the Thomson/ST routers.   Broadcom based netgears work well, and the Billions also seem to get good reports. It really is sometimes a case of suck it and see.

On my own line I tend to find the Broadcom based routers work by far the best... plus these routers are often the ones that you can get the most stats from.

I would just add that if you want one router for both ADSL and VDSL then the HG612 or HG622 (if you can find them) support both and which both work with DSLStats.

The best person for that query is Eric (Roseway on here) the DSLStats author, hopefully he will see this and let you know.

Unfortunately DSLstats doesn't work with DG834Gv3 as it isn't a Broadcom-based router. Routerstats does work with it.

There's a list of DSLstats compatible routers here: http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/routers.html
