TalkTalk moving the community forums
« on: July 31, 2013, 02:32:26 PM »

TalkTalk have started a migration process to move to a new community forum, all current forum boards are now read only until migration of all the data is complete, with a single exception and that is the special board about the migration which will die once migration and move is complete.

So today and probably tomorrow would not be a good time to have to raise any new issues. The new forums should (note should) be live on 1st August, but I guess it will take a few days to settle down.

Just hope I dont have an urgent problem for the next few days!

Apparently they have no way of migrating your password when the new community is up. What they have said is:-

Quote
Because we keep your password super secure and encrypted we don't actually know what it is as such we are unable to migrate your forum password with your user profile but DONT PANIC....

Once we have switched over to our new community the first thing you will need to do is reset your password which can be done by:

1. Click the "Login" link
2. Click the "Need help with your login name or password?"
3. Enter your email address and wait for your new password

I'm not sure why they can't migrate the passwords, unless the new forum is going to use a different hashing/encrypting algorithm.

I think I agree with you that it's not a good time to need help from TT.

>>> unless the new forum is going to use a different hashing/encrypting algorithm.

Most likely the reason.  I dont know what forum software they use atm.... but I know that there is/was problems transferring passwords over from vbulletin to smf because of the different algorithms used by the two systems.
