Groan! More renluopian Dslstats problems
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:53:24 AM »

I'm on 3.6  and it looks that all is set up, but in event log "no bit loading data received" is being reported.

The other concern is that, having left the computer and router on overnight, graphs etc were only recorded to 2.35 am. Telnet data showed no sign of anything untoward. Time up was 1 day 17 hours and connection speed unchanged. Computer desktop was live but I had to log in.

On both cases have you any suggestions to make? Please!

Did the "No bitloading..." event get logged with every sample, or just from time to time?

Did you log out explicitly, or did it happen automatically after some timeout period? If the latter, then that may explain the freezing of DSLstats.

Well the event log would suggest its at every sample the 'no bit loading' message is posted along sometimes with "snapshot directory is read only".
Although I was using the computer from 730 this morning with short breaks until midday, nothing is recorded for that time. Tonight has warning "unable to save snapshot".

AFICR the only economy setting is to sleep the monitor after a period of inactivity.  I'd not have thought that would make the computer need a re-login.

I suspect that these issues are related to the screensaver / economy settings, but I'm not in a position to test it myself at the moment. When I can I'll swap over to using the TG582N myself and run the program in Windows to see if I can reproduce the problem. In the meantime, is there anyone else reading this who sees the same issues?

I think I've looked at the screensaver and economy settings, amending successfully but anyone who knows what can be easily missed, please tell me.

My current Dslstats settings are in the attached zip file, just in case they might give a clue to the main problem.

I can't see anything inappropriate in your settings. But if you're still experiencing the problem I would suggest turning of the automatic snapshots for a while to see if that improves the situation. I did have some problems earlier on with autosnapshots in some circumstances, and I believe I fixed them, but it's just possible that there's still an issue in that area.

Just to clarify, does this only happen when the PC is unattended, or all the time?

OK, I'll have to swap over to my TG582N and see if I can determine what's gone wrong. Sorry about this.

I've made the swap, and I see the same error, so it's not related to Windows. Version 3.5 doesn't have the error, so I've accidentally introduced it in 3.6. I'll sort it out.

@renluop and kitz: I've done a quick fix on the problem, and you can download a replacement Windows executable from http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/files/dslstats.exe.zip . Just unzip it and copy dslstats.exe over the top of the current version. I'll do a proper job on this shortly, but in the meantime this one should fix it for you.

Thanks eric that seems to have done the trick. :)

---------
btw - Im not sure if its me thats missing something here so please bear with me, but is there a way when upgrading the version to auto load the previous stats/graphs, so they can merge into a continuous time frame.

The reason being is that Ive noticed that I had a change of attenuation again today, and the line lost sync.  Ive managed to recover SNRM from the XML file to see what happened during that period, but viewing this graph puts dslstats into a pause mode (I thought Id broken it at first  :D)

Replacing the exe seems to have lost all my prev stats :/

At present I'm afraid there's no way to restore the graphs in active mode. It's on the todo list, but it's rather difficult, so it won't be in the next version but I'll plan to include it in the next but one. At present I'm working on usage monitoring.

When you say that you've lost all your previous stats, what exactly has been lost?

I was able to use the xml files to recover sync rate and SNRM.   I lost the record of my atten changes.
No worries eric, it was just a suggestion because it shouldnt really be something that happens that often.
It was only because I was trying to reconstruct what happened earlier today that I brought it up.

Edited

Apologies - I just found an attenuation log text file in the graphs folder :D
