Reuse of IDC connectors on an NTE5A
« on: May 24, 2013, 05:53:35 PM »

Hey folks,

Does anyone know if the A/B IDC connector block (BT side) on newer Openreach NTE5As is reusable, as in, can wiring be disconnected and a new connection be reliably remade, presuming a decent punch down tool has been employed? I'm pondering transplanting something but may just go with a new box if it isn't a good idea to reuse them.

Mucho thankso.  ;D

They are, as you term it, 'reusable'. Assuming that the correct tool is used, of course.  ;)

Phew, glad to know that the wife's best silver fish knife was the right choice then! :graduate:

Nah, I've borrowed a rather luxurious tool from work with little scissors that trim the wire and everything!

There is one thing you will definitely manage to do.

Black Sheep has done it, I have done it, you will do it . . . that is to use the insertion tool the 'wrong way round' and cut off the wire you are valiantly attempting to terminate in the IDC!  :D

Yes I hate the little bloody scissors. When doing a big frame you end up with little bits of wire all over the place.

Modified my tool (oh err misses) and removed the scissors.

I like those little bits of offcut wire.

They're very satisfying somehow  :D
