That's OK by me, as I have other things on that LAN and I have plenty of experience of doing that, but thank you for your concern.   :)

It's also worth noting that previous attempts that merely reset the config to defaults did not, of itself, resolve the problem.  It did need the firmware to be reflashed too.   ???

I've successfully set up an HG612 as a router on my Zen/BT ADSL2+ connection. The DHCP server works when set up as shown in the wiki: http://wiki.kitz.co.uk/index.php?title=Basic#LAN_settings - and I agree with others that connected PCs pick up the DNS addresses when configured for DHCP, but not if the PC has a manually set IP address.

First reactions are that the performance is very similar to other Broadcom-based routers such as the D-Link DSL-2740B which I was using previously. But I'm uncertain about the firewall at present. Checking with Shields Up shows that most ports are closed but not stealthed, and I can't see a way to change that at the moment.

I have not yet finished adding words to the Wiki article but I did think it sensible to annotate the Frewall level and the following five images. Configured as those six images, Shields Up! confirms that all ports are in stealth mode. Please see below.

Oh, I see, thanks. I had assumed that it was necessary to specify the range of source addresses in the From-LAN rule. Now I've set it up exactly as you describe, and all is well with the world. :)

I have the firewall disabled on the HG612.  And rely on my IPCop router sat behind it to do that role.  Although I'm a bit tardy with that too, got quite a few ports open that I haven't used for some time.  Should really disable what I'm not using.

Hey guys... just found this thread. I've just got FTTC installed, but have been provided with an ECI modem so my HG612 is rather redundant.

Anywayyyyy.... My setup with a 612 was for a TalkTalk (LLU) line setup as a bridge, where PPPoE authentication and routing was performed on my Apple Time Capsule. Here are my settings:

Just got round to playing with this.   There's a Linux one liner for using the Huawei in PPPoE bridge mode, with the ppp interface brought up on the PC:

That works fine on TalkTalk LLU - and seems a little bit faster than with the Huawei supplying the ppp layer,  maybe.

Ideally, the username and password should be tucked into the file /etc/ppp/chap-secrets (so that they aren't visible using 'ps', etc.)  But as TalkTalk LLU (and Openreach VDSL2) accept anything as a ppp/chap password, there aren't really any 'secrets' to worry about!
