How Do You Get Books From Amazon Under Linux.
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:08:26 PM »

How Do You Get Books From Amazon Under Linux  :hmm:.
I tried by downloading/buying a free book and I got = "we did not find a Kindle device or a reading app that supports this item registered to your Amazon account."
It's catch 22. There are no Kindle reading Apps for Linux, so I can not get any of there books . >:D

Edit, I have not tried Google play store yet is that the same ?.

Edit 2, I have tried 'Wine' and downloaded the windows app but it will not install ... Serious error.

https://read.amazon.co.uk/about  ?

You end up on the Amazon dot com  !!!!!

Edit, Catch 22 again ...try to buy one you get "Kindle titles are available for UK customers on Amazon.co.uk.
Continue shopping on the Kindle Store at Amazon.co.uk."

Then you can not save to the 'cloud' which is in America (dot com)  >:D

Ok getting somewhere now  :).
I set up a virtual XP pc then downloaded and installed the Amazon Kindle windows pc reader and installed it, registered it on Amazon.check my account and it was there and by magic the other one that you gave a link for Eric is also registered.
So I can now get some books from Amazon.
Thanks for your help'
Seems other people are having problems using Wine.

I'm pleased to hear that you got it working, albeit by a roundabout route. :)

It's not too surprising that there are problems using Wine. Wine is effectively trying to mimic a complete operating system, and in a large number of cases it does a very good job, but there are bound to be cases where it falls down.

I find that my Amazon account now thinks I have the pc reader so I can get books then download them to my wife's Tablet when she switches it on and opens the 'kindle app'
