odd ping result? ...rizla?
« on: May 08, 2013, 03:05:42 AM »

I was running JD Speedtester and noticed it was giving 36-38ms pings... hang on! I thought? I normally get 28-30ms so im up by 8ms - yet my Interleave Depth (96) and INP (1.04) are the same as before so hows this? - Iam sure i tested it since my last re-sync and I got my usual 28-30ms..?

any ideas whats causing this?

I forgot too tell Rizla (if your reading) after my last manual re-sync when I wanted to go back to DLM's TSNRM that my IP is now 2.120 :) as you said this showed I was on the new gateway or something??

It may be something to do with your routing, or even how busy the link is.

Its not just interleaving that can affect latency.
~ One of the hops may be experiencing some congestion.
~ You may be going via a different route, which may take a longer. You have no control over the routing.
Ive known this happen many times in the past for eg when on BTw Ive seen my latency go up from 15ms to 28ms on a non-interleaved line purely down to a re-route of the exchange backhaul.

Yeah my latency increased by 5ms or so when Sky moved my PPP session to the new (to me anyway) gateways.
