Is Chrome just faster than Firefox?
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:42:29 AM »

I have been using Chrome for about a year now and I love it's speed. However, I still keep Firefox around just in case Chrome can't open a website. I noticed a couple of days ago that Firefox had been updated to version 18 so I thought I would try it out to see if it is any better and I found that it just seems really, really slow compared to Chrome! Whereas on Chrome, this forum will take 5 seconds to load, on Firefox it will take 10 seconds to load on Firefox. On other sides (with lots of graphics, etc.) are even worse; Chrome will take maybe 20 seconds whereas Firefox will take 35 seconds.

Has anybody noticed similar?

I sometimes use Chrome but there are a number of things which I dont like about it, one major thing being it wont properly copy all my firefox settings over. Whether it's that much faster for me is difficult to gauge especially right now with TT network issues.

I've never liked Chrome either, so I can't compare. But 5 seconds to load a forum page sounds very long, and FF certainly doesn't take that long here (when TT's network is behaving properly).

I use Chrome for my 2005 XP laptop with just 1Gb of RAM and this site loads in around 2 - 3 seconds.

I gave up on Firefox which on this laptop was slower than 1st class mail  :(

I use both - mostly FF, but I must admit I do find chrome quicker on certain sites - particularly if theres flash content.
FF is still my default but I suppose thats because Ive never bothered to change things like bookmarks etc over.

It's definitely just as safe.... I like Chrome much more, I think it loads alot faster especially on startup.

I regularly visit a forum at http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/ and about a month ago it became terribly slow to load and update. This possibly happened when I updated to FF 28. Other people using the forum have noticed it as well but apart from a suggestion that it might be the result of taking steps to avoid Heartbleed, no one offered a cure. I tried several different browsers and Chrome made it nice and quick again. I still use FF28 and it works fine speedwise on other sites but I'm holding back from FF29 until the dust clears! Just my two penn'orth.

To add another option, in January I changed from FF to SR Ware Iron, on a Kitzen's recommendation (Thank you whoever) as I was having some trouble ( file corruption ?)  I couldn't clear.

This is a cut down version of Chrome. We find it is OK and imported  FF favorites.  Only slight snag is the website instructions in imperfectly translated German.  Impression was a little faster than FF.

If you find your Internet Browser is very fast then it could be you don't have any security software installed or turn off most of the security settings.

So is chrome faster than firefox it depends on which security software you have running in the background.

In my innocent skepticism ;D I'm going to ask how much noticeable time difference in which something could be achieved, using one or other? That is given all external factors are equal, and speeds achievable with FTTx especially.

Using Firefox in Linux yesterday I found that the site I mentioned previously http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/ is fine for speed. Don't quite know what this means but I thought it worth mentioning.

I know chrome used to be able to handle Flash games MUCH better than any of the other browsers.  Notably so and much less likely to crash.
Not played any games in a while so not sure how it compares now.
