Changing ISP without losing any mail
« on: February 13, 2013, 03:12:30 PM »

After 6 years with Zen, I want to go back to Plusnet. However, I have a domain webpack+ with Amenworld which redirects mail from me@mydomain.com to me@mydomain.myzen.co.uk (there are a few more e.g my partners in the same form).

I could change the redirect on the migration day (assuming all goes smoothly !), but there is still a chance I could lose some. Does my Zen mail account get deleted that day, or will it continue for the next 24 hours or so ?

TIA

I did this myself several months ago, and I recall that there was an overlap period, but it wasn't very long (a day perhaps).

So was it just a case of being quick with the redirects ?

I know it may not help here but this is why I dont use my ISPs mail as my normal mail server. My hosting company provides me with full mail support and webmail so I can change my ISP without having a problem. OK I'd have a problem changing hosting company but if you need hosting and pick a good one then you should be OK probably for a lot longer than you might be with an ISP.

You could set up a Gmail account and redirect to that just before the migration takes place.

Once migrated over you could then redirect to your new provider or even continue using Gmail!
