If not born of the Long Range Desert Group, so effective in North Africa against Rommel, I think SAS may have had very close connections.

I seem to remember a story that 2 of the Goons met In the North africa campaign. One I belive was Spike Milligan and the other Harry Seacombe. One was in an artillery group. Something about one of the guns sinking down the side of a dune in the night. They went down looking for it. Finding another Army encampment one asked if any one had seen an artillery piece, to which the other replyed "What colour ?"

Perhaps some else might know the story clearer. I think I remember the story from a Wogan show interview
