BSoD
« on: November 19, 2012, 07:48:28 PM »

WinXp SP3 up to date is the OS.

Occasionally when I insert a CD or DVD into the drive, my laptop goes through the checking procedure etc then it BSoDs. So it seems to be either on the graphics side or the CD/DVD drive but both are up to date.

This doesn't happen every time though. I have tested it by having no other applications loaded/running, just Windows and it still happens. I have relatively new RAM which was not fitted because of the BSoD but I know RAM faults tend to cause them.

The stop code I see is this :

0X0000008E (0X0000005; 0X806F0134; 0XA9F6F40C;  0X00000000)

Any suggestions please ?

I have no idea what the stop code means, but with you saying that the ram & drive are both up to date I have a feeling you have changed one or both of the items. If you have had the case apart you may need to repeat the exercise and make sure all the connections are sound.
It may also be the connections for the cd tray that are dirty.
Just a couple of thoughts for you.
Aprt from those I have no others. Best of luck.

I'd definitely start by running something like Memtest and let it run through all the tests at least a couple of times, if error free then I guess it could be the drive.

A bit late, but this link provides a list of the BSOD stop codes:
