Reminder: I've failed my brain training exam
« on: December 16, 2012, 12:46:06 PM »

Lawks, once one reaches the trombones years the memory becomes the forgettery. :'(

Can someone remind me the exact procedure for dis/re-connects in the training period? Please!
It's so I can give a friend correct gen.

There's not really an exact procedure, but in general it would be best just to leave the router connected all the time, and don't force any reconnections.

Thanks for the semi correction. Thing is his last phone and BB was provided by reason of his professional employment (NHS). The sync then was 1000+ on what he gets from BT now.

BTW how does one pull DSL stats from the BT router?

The so-called training period doesn't affect the router's connection speed - its only real purpose is to establish a fault threshold rate (the rate below which BT will recognise that a low speed fault exists). So the fact that the speed is now less than it was previously isn't related to the training period.

I don't know what router BT are using now, so I'm afraid I can't help with the last question.

just to add to what Eric has already said..

most routers come with the interface access settings on the back of it..

i.e. it may say

URL: http:\\192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254)
USERNAME: admin
PASSWORD: admin

you would type the 192.168.1.1 or whatever it is into the address bar in your web browser and press enter - this takes you to the routers login screen, then you log in with the stated details - then one would look for something along the lines of 'Connection Stats' or 'Router Status' - something that indicates stats, one simply has to browse through the sections until they find them

you want Connection Speed, Line Attenuation and Noise Margin

As it came out later, the BB was with Orange: the phone element being with some local telecoms company that serves commercial and professional entities.

One thing to bear in mind if its still the case.

You want to avoid having a resync too often in a short space of time, IE 10 within an hour.

You don't want to fool the DLM there's an issue on the line and reduce your speed for the sake of stability
