Headache - Have a Tablet

With family in Europe- The States and Australia we often find ourselves in Airport security lines trying to get what I once thought was a small net book out of its bag from inside our carry on case and finding that on the other side I'm missing something I had to'get out' or 'take off' to satisfy 'security'. Last ime it was my trouser belt! Anyway- My aging Netbook has got to go and I was wondering if a 7 inch tablet would be more convenient to travel with and would do what I want of it, and if so which one. I looked at the Kindle Fire (whilst in the States) and have been reading up on the Nexus 7, both do 90% of what I need them to do but neither it seems has the capacity to recieve the SD card from my camera (even through a pasive adaptor) so that I can download photos direct from my camera without going through a computer of some sort. Do the experts have any suggestions I wonder?

Sorry bit late as Ive only just seen this, but the ipad has an attachment which you can connect and view photos direct from your camera, or insert an sd card.
