Christmas gifts for our (dishonest) MPs/MSPs
« on: December 04, 2007, 11:39:38 AM »

First up is the "The Bumper Book of Government Waste 2008 Edition" :

http://books.theregister.co.uk/catalog/browse.asp?ref=862536&advert=ggfc2

Or how about "The Big Red book Of New Labour Sleaze" which sadly I can't recommend as it was published in June 2007 so is out of date already :

http://books.theregister.co.uk/catalog/browse.asp?ref=844824&advert=ggfc2

Feel free to add to the list ;)

wtf?

Quote
£100,000 on assessing whether £400,000 reportedly spent on modern art for seven hospitals was money well spent.

It's difficult not to explode with anger at such mind-boggling waste of our money.

Its not your money. It's their money.

Once you understand that, shut up, pay the taxes and stay in your house then the govt will be able to report that all of their schemes are successful.

I'm only being mildly facetious here as I suspect some politicians want EXACTLY that :(

I can possibly believe it.
In some respects it seems a damn shame that a hell of a lot of food in the Uk goes to waste.

On of the big supermarkets used to donate to our local Salvation Army the stuff they could no longer sell (by virtue of it being on its sell-by date).  Now the Salvation Army are no longer allowed to collect because they don't have a refrigerated van - due to some EU reg.

Supermarkets don't really care that much about waste as in most cases it will be the supplier paying for it. If you want to supply one of the big 3 supermarkets in the UK and you aren't a major multinational then prepare to be paying for the shelf space, display, warehousing costs and of course disposal costs for unsold produce.

I did read that if companies  want to to put their products at the end of isles where they are seen the most, then they pay a premium for that. Also all these B.O.G.O.F,s and 3for2 etc are paid for by the supplier not the supermarket.
