Excel problem
« on: October 08, 2012, 05:48:05 PM »

Instead of cell references being alpha-numeric, they have changed to numero-numeric.

I have no idea how they got changed, nor how to get them back to normal.

Help please!

this can be changed in your cell formatting preferences in excel.

for the most part the options will be under edit - preferences, (2007) or the office button and options in 2010 / 2013 versions

I'll look at that! Thanks! :)  BTW this is the sort of thing I'm getting  in cell N3

Not sure about that - but from what i have looked at it looks like you have macros on the spreadsheet document there. or that seems to be the most common theme from a google search anyway. - If cell formatting isn't the answer - try turning off Macros see if that changes anything.

I did find this - though you might have to read through it a bit to find the related bits of information about half way down the page.

I'm puzzled by your comment about macros.

Simply, the R1C1 style referencing in EXCEL became switched on for some reason.

You can turn this on/off using the options in EXCEL. Each EXCEL version puts this somewhere different in the menus, but for EXCEL 2007 for example you do the following:

Excel Options

Formulas  - make sure that there is no tick in the box called:-

    R1C1 reference style
