BT's latest list of exchanges for upgrades
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:37:02 AM »

Gentlefolk,

I expect this will be seen as good news by many.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/broadband/377179/bt-announces-163-new-fibre-exchanges?DCMP=NLC-Newsletters&utm_campaign=pcpro_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter

On the other hand Surrey does not apear in the list once despite having many exchanges still with ADSL 1 services only.
Maybe the following is not unrelated ?

http://news.surreycc.gov.uk/2012/09/12/surrey-to-become-best-connected-county-in-uk-with-33m-superfast-broadband-deal-2/

Kind regards,
Walter

Patience guys. I install/repair this stuff on a daily basis, then go back home to 8Meg speeds. There's nothing on the horizon for my Exchange atm either.

I can tell you that we (OR), are fire-fighting one of the largest workstacks we've ever had, due to the extremely inclement weather. Staff are currently moving around all over the place to where the extremely high fault volumes are. Contractors are also working full-out assisting.

As a result, the NGA programme itself still continues to roll out at its usual pace, but the chances of throwing extra resource its way are going to be pretty slim for the immediate future. Just my opinion of course, but as I say, patience is a virtue and NGA will get to you at some point. ;)

@ BS,

I have the greatest respect for almost all of you guys (Except perhaps the perpetrator of the Peaslake Road debacle, in my other note here, which no doubt was ably assisted by his management).

As an example we have just had PCP 20's FTTC cabled up this week. It has a duct length of about 60 m (Yes it was noted on the plans too !) Two men, one of them being a tough rock climber were tasked to pull two 100 pr cables by hand without a winch starting on a day of continuous rain. The first day was a failure as the draw rope became tangled in the fibre quad tube already in the single duct. They were totally exhausted at the end of the second day but they did manage to get the cables through from the opposite direction. One man returned on the third day to make off the IDC blocks which took the morning to complete. The FTTC would be capable of expansion to 256 services except that the cabinet was ordered as an ECI 128 even though our original procurement specification was for a capacity (unpopulated) for 500 services. I any case that expansion is impossible as the single duct cannot possibly take another pair of 100 pr and 50 pr cables. It's absolute madness as the entire duct route, except for 2 m, is in hard dig highway and footpath.

Kind regards,
Walter

PS if you want to see how the heros are coping in their quagmires just have a look below.
Soft-dig is an excellent solution, but it does take on a whole new meaning when you see the Lune rose over four feet overnight earlier this week.
