Router question
« on: September 19, 2012, 05:50:41 PM »

Hi i have two routers and wondered what is best for me to use on my line my ISP supplied Technicolour 582n Pro or my Netgear DGN1000. i have noticed the Netgear shows a lower line attuation what matches the distance of the line my isp has told me (attuation of 25db) 1.8km and the 582N shows me to be around (attuation of 30db) 2.4km from the exchange.

Take no notice of the reported attenuation. It's just a figure calculated by the router, and changing the router doesn't make the real-life attenuation change. What matters is actual performance. I'm not personally impressed with the Netgear DGN1000, so my choice would be the Technicolour, but you can only be sure if you try both of them and see what the stats look like.

The DSL side of the DGN1000 is great, but I was dsimally unimpressed with the Wireless. The 582N however is a good allrounder and if you manually set the best wireless channel you should see a decent connection.
