HG612 Plotter Project
« on: September 08, 2012, 01:05:23 PM »

Hi all,
As of yesterday morning I thought I'd work on a C#.NET variant of a program which I currently have named 'HG612 Plotter'. This program will show you need-to-know details from your unlocked HG612 router/modem, such as SNR, power, speed, errors, and error rates (in per min, per hour, and per day formats). See below for a complete set of planned features (though subject to change of course:

- Need-to-know statistics shown on the GUI:

- A set of graphs (saved manually using the [ S ] button at the top right of the GUI):
http://i.imgur.com/bAuwo.png
http://i.imgur.com/UtV4A.png
http://i.imgur.com/CKgTP.png
http://i.imgur.com/p70oM.png

- Auto-save graphs every midnight (23:59)
- Most statistics are harvested from the 192.168.1.1 webserver as opposed to SSH (which is known to be unreliable sometimes when logging in, though that happens rarely)
- Options to re-sync the modem under certain conditions (e.g. if DS CRC error rate is greater than 15.75 after 8 hours of uptime), change modem parameters, etc.
- Per minute, per hour and per day error rates will attempt to predict the 'end of time period' errors if less than their time period (e.g. less than a day)

I expect there's more that can be done, but so far that's the basics. Suggestions/ideas are welcome, for now this is a preview. I need to finish the interleaving details and program options.

I hope you don't mind my moving this to a more appropriate section of the forum.

This looks interesting. Just one detailed comment - I presume that what you refer to as Downstream Signal and Upstream Signal are actually SNR margin (SNRM)?

No problem. Yes, that is what they are meant to be.

Thanks, it's work in progress but nevertheless is making progress. I'm experimenting with a mini-DLM analysis tool in the settings page which, with customisable thresholds, could be used to try and give you an indication of whether DLM is due to possibly punish your connection or possibly reward your connection, based on the MTBE (mean time between errors).

I might buy a Fritzbox 7390 tomorrow though, I'm wondering if the max stability/max performance sliders actually work on BT's Infinity service for that router.

Just a quick note from me to say that please be aware that the GUI of the Huawei HG612 tells lies and is a bit mixed-up.  :-X

Baldy_Bird, when permitted some playtime by Mrs Eagle, will be able to tell you all about the GUI issue.  ;)

I'm not baldy_bird of course, but I can certainly confirm that the HG612 GUI gets the error rates all wrong, and mixes up FECs, CRCs and HECs.
